Disney has abandoned plans to open up a new employee campus in Lake Nona, Florida, amid rising tensions with the state's governor.

Citing "changing business conditions" and the return of CEO Bob Iger, Josh D'Amaro, chairman of Disney's parks, experiences and products division, penned a memo to employees Thursday, announcing that the company will not move forward with construction of the campus and will no longer be asking more than 2,000 California-based employees to relocate to Florida.

"This was not an easy decision to make, but I believe it is the right one," D'Amaro told employees.

Should this change DeSantis' mind? Yes.

Will it? No, absolutely not.

$1 billion is not.

Plus, it's not just the employees, but their families as well.

Another state is getting all of that.

Ron Quixote needs to just take the L.

Does this relate to the announcement Disney made a few weeks ago that they're cutting 7,000 jobs as part of a multi-billion dollar cost cutting effort?

From the article:

D'Amaro reiterated in his memo that the company still plans to invest $17 billion in Florida over the next 10 years, including the addition of around 13,000 jobs. The company currently employs more than 75,000 people in the state.

Keep saying that - like in the Godfather and irl - a 'friendly' Caribbean government can take Disney from Florida.

Disney already has a cruise line and with the prices, they gave up on the "middle American" tourist quite some time ago.

And personally, I'd never consider a vacay in Florida but a cruise to the Caribbean and possible Disney?

Put me on the waiting list.

The types of people being laid off wouldn't be the ones living in this type of place. The parks division wasn't laying off any hourly folks. Mostly mid level. The theme parks make an ass load of liquid cash and those low level employees are incredibly cost effective.

They didn't.
Disney said it doesn't hate gays because "they have money too" and Ron's tiny dick shriveled up like Dracula in the day light. Since then he's been harassing them trying to get his mojo back instead of just manning TLH airport's busiest glory hole like we all know he wants to.

All this just because Disney doesn't publicly hate LGBTQ people. Their statement was essentially "everyone's money is good here" and somehow DeSantis viewed that as woke communism or some shit.

Yes, the current 'groomer' rhetoric took off like wildfire when DeSantis' camp used it during the start of the 'Don't Say Gay' feud.

And DeSantis' primary (if not singular) motivation here is to keep his name in the headlines by looking tough against big, bad Disney. His camp knows he has a reputation among people who know him as only picking fights with groups who can't fight back, and this was his chance to look like a big boy in the eyes of his voting base.

We're in the second act of this pathetic tale. Here's what you've missed thus far.

  • DeSantis passed a "Don't Say Gay" bill which discriminated against members of the LGBT community (a flagrant violation of federal anti-discrimination laws).
  • Under pressure from employees, Disney management spoke out against the bill.
  • In retaliation, DeSantis revoked Disney's special status as de facto governors of the district their parks are located in (a flagrant violation of the first amendment).
  • This move saddles Florida tax payers with more than a billion dollars in debt Disney was paying as part of the agreement that gave them said special status, which DeSantis has vowed not to pay.
  • DeSantis then promised to force Disney to release content he finds acceptable, meaning no LGBT characters or themes.
  • To force Disney to cow to his wishes, DeSantis replaced the board overseeing the special district with toadies. But he didn't cross his Ts and dot his Is; Disney's lawyers got very favorable contracts with very long terms signed before the old board members were replaced.
  • Disney sued DeSantis for violating their first amendment rights.
  • Among other petty threats, DeSantis said he's considering building a prison across the street from Disney World.
  • And that brings us to this. Where we go from here, who knows? One thing we do know, though, is that DeSantis is going to whine and bitch and spew the word "woke" dozens of times while Disney's lawyers continue to clean his clock.

And all of this is just Ron's beef with Disney. He's also picked fights with the Tampa Rays, teachers, state universities, libraries, and drag queens.

Man DeSantis is destroying his state's economy. What with his war with Disney and his recent draconian anti-migrant bill that has left farms and other businesses in his state understaffed.

But since the anti-woke stuff and anti undocumented immigrant stuff is popular with his party he will keep doing it.
