Like help me understand something because I see all these Vegan posts about stopping animal killing for meat. How cruel it is to eat and kill animals.

Meanwhile every day and for thousands of years animals just been killing for fun or for eating. They don't even bother killing some animals before they start eating them. That's nature on this planet.

So if humans come from apes that are in fact "animals" then humans are just animals too so why is it such a problem for humans to kill and eat animals as well?

The problem is factory farms

Wild animals are less cruel than humans are, as they don't intentionally mass produce and slaughter billions of creatures per year in an utterly horrific manner

Is your argument that of animals do it, then it should be fine for humans to do it also?

We obviously don't go by that logic for many of the things we as a society do.. For good reason.
So I find it weird to try and use that argument to justify eating meat. Eat meat if you want to, whatever. I just think this is a bad argument

Male ducks are pretty aggressive in the mating process, and three to six (or more)males may attack a single female. This massive attack often causes injuries to the female and may even result in her death.

Why is rape illegal, animals do it and we're animals, too!

I mean "animals do it" is pretty terrible logic for anything. All sorts of primates like to throw their shit at stuff. Humans are primates, I don't understand why I can't throw my shit at stuff.

And yeah, animals do kill and eat other animals. That is the circle of life, but humans have found a way to do so at a scale that amplifies cruelty to levels that no animals could ever produce. All to consume meat at a level well-above "natural" levels of consumption.

And that isn't even getting into the environmental harms it causes.

My dad was put on a vegan diet for like a year by his doctor for health reasons... what don't you understand about that, TC? How does it figure into your equation and stereotyping?

I also hear a lot more bitching from people like you than I ever hear from vegans, though I suppose it could just be because I'm Texan. Why don't you mind your own business when it comes to other people's dietary decisions?

I see all these Vegan posts

I just did a search on this board to see if something here might have set you off, only to find that the vegan topic was vegans sharing their recipes with each other. How provocative!

Maybe you should stop lurking the vegan boards if their views bother you and, again, keep your eyes on your own plate instead of being the same preachy kind of person that people always find so abrasive from the vegan or vegetarian communities.

Aww ok that I can understand its more the commercialization of it. Ok I can definitely see that being wrong I would say most things that have been commercialized to a huge degree like that are also detrimental.

Modern humans have trapped, forced them to reproduce, and keep them on a cycle of non stop butcher. Theres no need to consume animals to survive anymore. Its greed and over consumption. Farm animals have become domesticated to the point that they couldnt survive in the wild so the only excuse people use them for is needless slaughter. Humans use to have to trap and hunt their food. Its not the same anymore or has been for a very long time. Even if it was it is no longer ethical with the alternatives that are out there now.

The fact that so much food gets wasted is a concern for over consumption and needless slaughter. An animal died that didnt need to, yet humans waste it away every day when they grocery stores and restaurants or people at parties throw away the food they have extras of or no longer want.

I guess you've never seen a tribe of chimps catch a monkey and rip it apart while it's alive and eat it.

One of my earliest memories of nature shows was seeing them rip one's arms off and sat in the branches chewing on them. I was like wtf I thought they ate fruit and stuff

I'm a firm believer in omnivorism.

Just eating nothing but meat or plants isn't the best way of getting what nutrition we humans need to fuel our bodies. A little salt is needed as well.

And we also mass-produce plants as part of our food supply. This idea we only do so with meat is absurd, given we grow them in cramped plots and spray pesticides on them so bugs don't eat them first.

There is no "best way" outside of getting a balanced diet that contains all the essential amino acids, lipids and minerals which is very possible with a vegan diet. Sure, it takes a little more forethought and possibly a supplement, but it's an entirely good way of getting your nutrition, and will probably be more balanced.

And we also mass-produce plants as part of our food supply.

As previously stated, the majority of food we grow, we grow to feed cattle. However, we also have this thing called "Organic farming" where we don't use pesticides.

There's no nutritional argument in favour of a non-vegan diet if you have access to a modern western supermarket. There simply isn't. The argument in favour of eating meat is "I want to".
