The piss into my apartment?

I noticed recently that my apartment complex has a surge stray kittens wandering around. I have a small yard with a fence and there are several kittens hanging around there throughout the day. I normally would have no issue, but I've heard of cat piss being particularly dangerous to breathe due to the concentration of ammonia in the piss fumes. Would the cat piss marking my yard be of any health concern, especially when the summer heat comes along? I've brought this issue to my building manager but she expressed that they are no harm.

My yard is very small (small balcony space) and it's right next to my window so I hope you guys understand why I'm concerned.

I'd wear a rebreather outside just in case.

You'll probably be fine as long as you're not huffing it or something.

If you're really worried you can get a fan or something and stick it in the window to kept the room ventilated.

But if I have a fan near the window, wouldn't that bring the fumes more inside?

Depends. If it's against the wall or under the floor, such as a crawl space, then yes it can to a degree if there's a very high amount or there's a gap in the construction.

If you're in an apartment building then I doubt the one applies, though you'll know it's present when you enter a room and it has a sharp slightly painful burn to the smell. If it's outside, then it should be mostly ok as it should be ventilated enough. However, you will very likely smell it if you go remotely near where they pee. Fortunately as they get older they spread out to do this and usually they try to avoid going where they sleep.

Opening a window would probably make it worse, assuming it's not already seeping into the walls/floor and becoming concentrated. Though I will say you'll know it when you smell it.

Oh, and I don't know if this is just my experience, but the evaporating might actually be better. When it saturates and becomes concentrated is when it becomes so much worse.

I'm pretty sure if you put a fan in a window and make sure it's blowing air back out then it won't matter.

But the above poster is also right that you likely shouldn't open the window at all if its seals are holding up. I'd only get a fan out if it was causing a noticeable stink even with the window closed.

fumes decrease in intensity and unless in a confined space will expand outward in every direction as they disperse.

you are fine.

you can test this by filling a balloon with smoke. Buy a pack of cigarettes and smoke one .. exhaling into the balloon. Now tie the balloon off.. hold it at eye level and pop the balloon. Can you still see the smoke after 5 seconds? No? That is because it has dispersed.
