It's like a million years in the future. The animals don't know for sure what happened to humans, but after they were gone, animals were able to evolve and take humanity's place

There are still unevolved animals. But it might not be stuff you are used to eating. Not every species evolved. Let's say this is the list of the ones who evolved

Cats
Dogs
Birds
Crocodiles or Alligators (or both. I never understand the difference)
Dolphins

Everything else is still around as just simple beasts

If suddenly Ghengis Khan was reincarnated in modern day. I doubt many people would care about his atrocities (as long as he didn't repeat them), and be more interested what he could tell us about the Magicks... I mean history of his time.
