Learning how to grill and there's a lot of, y'know, concern about blowing shit up

Everything says don't leave propane in the sun but also not in an enclosed place?

So let's say I grill tonight. When I'm done and the grill is clean, do I just, what, leave the propane in there?

Hooking it and unhooking it every time I use it seems like a pain in the ass. Especially when I can't just leave the tank outside in the sun when I'm not using it. At the same time, if I leave it in the grill, is the sun not just going to make the inside of the grill like, much hotter? (like the inside of a car on a sunny day)

dear god how do i do this

It'll be fine. Most grocery stores leave them in a metal cage outside. I keep mine outside attached to my grill.

Yeah you can leave it hooked up, if you're concerned about elements exposure just get a grill cover

I keep my forklifts propane tanks outside in a metal cage. You will be fine with a grill cover. Also keeping it hooked up will keep something from building a home in the lines.

Good to know on the rodents. I do have a cover so I'll open that up tonight.

I'm too inexperienced to go to charcoal. I've literally never grilled before so propane is the newbie approach.

Dont just shut off the burners when done. You need to close the valve on the tank, too.

So if I'm understanding the process right too

1.) Hook up tank to grill
2.) Open propane valve
3.) Grill and profit
4.) Shut off burners
5.) Close valve
6.) Let everything cool off and then put grill cover on

???

I've used my new grill just once so far (last summer) and the propane tank I bought with it is still connected to it (turned off obviously). Just turn the gas off when you're done and leave it connected to the grill.

This doesn't matter at all but I do have grill cover for it during the offseason.

Pretty much all you need to do. The only other thing would be scraping/brushing off the grates. I always do it following warm up, prior to cooking. Some insist on cleaning it right after.

Just remember to click the tongs twice. Thats where the real magic happens.

Yes, I was about to mention make sure you shut off the valve at the end.

Just turn it on? Or turn it on and also ignite it

Yeah, I also do a scrape before and after cooking, just in case I forget to do it before or after cooking the next time.

Well it's not a huge fuckup, might not even be a real issue. But if you turn on the burner by itself, will vent any gas trapped in the line safely

Yeah, I've never had an issue with it. Never even thought about it actually... but that may be a good point that I will now be paranoid about. lol

Just the valve.

Can also get something like this to give you an indicator of about how much propane you still have.

Actually my grill has a weight thing - you clip the side of the propane on and as you use it and it gets lighter, it slides up.
