The video focuses on black men but most of it applies to men in general. Main points: -Patriarchy has confined black men into very rigid forms of acceptable gender expression and encourages black men to exhibit aggression, violence, and emotional unintelligence. Deviating from this is considered "weakness" -The belief that black people are "like this" was crafted and utilized as justification for their enslavement, and is still used to perpetuate the church, the prison system, and anti-blackness -Seeking help for mental health, showing non-romantic intimacy, and even experimenting with new clothing/hobbies, these are often considered feminine and result in bullying or some degree of social condemnation when men do them -This discourages men/boys from seeking health treatment and learning how to express themselves, leading to social isolation, loneliness, and depression -There are very few spaces for men to find community (gaming, military, sports), and these are socially acceptable because patriarchy only allows men to express platonic intimacy in aggressive/competitive circumstances -Very few black male celebrities have broken out of the confines of how they're expected to behave -We should celebrate when men stand against regressive gender norms -We should push back against any "sassy" allegations that are targeted at a man because he chose to wear something "feminine" instead of go to war --- "I like to smell other people's farts" -k1zzl3_82 https://i.imgur.com/BQTuf1F.jpeg <cite>HairyQueen posted [p:973534703] in The "...
