I'd say the Bernie could be considered a centrist. Social Democrats hope to reform and reign in capitalism through stronger social and welfare programs. In theory, they seek to take the best from both capitalism and socialism.

That's in contrast to the Right, who generally seeks unregulated capitalism, and the Left, who look to replace it with a more egalitarian system, like Socialism.

Yes, but that doesn't mean it you have to be legit Socialist/Anticapitalist just to be left of center. I'm talking about true Democratic Socialists like the SDA or something. For someone like Bernie I could accept the idea that he's just a bit center-left.

Depends on what that means. If not being pro-capitalist means you want to completely dismantle the capitalist system at all levels, that goes to what I said above. I mean I've never heard the premise that "Left of center is (at least) Socialism and Right of center is Capitalism (including Social Democracy)."

Except that Bernie was pro gun for most of his career as a Vermont Senator, so by CE standards he's practically ISIS.
