Not only did they try and do the "Dr. Wily isn't the villain this time, honest!" three times, the "Not Dr. Wily" in 6 is literally just Dr. Wily with sunglasses. He isn't even trying.

4 holds a special place in my heart because it was the first one I ever played. I rented it from Blockbuster when I was like 4 years old, I picked it because I was a dumb kid and thought the bigger number meant the better game.

I call it the Imposter Trilogy for this reason. 4 was really the only time we might ever believed we got a brand new villain. The ending of 3 looked like Wily was done(How he survived was never mentioned. Rocks seemed to have crushed him and Megaman both,but I guess we can chalk it up to being a fake Wily like the previous encounter.) and Cossack came out of the woodwork, so it seemed we might gotten a new foe to face. After that, was just waiting for the other shoe to drop for Wily to show himself. 6 was definitely the most obvious, but 6 was a rush job across the board.

Yeah kind of dumb that when making 9 Capcom was like "2 is everyone's favorite! Let's make it just like 2!" not seeming to understand that people didn't like 2 specifically because you couldn't slide or charge your weapon.
