Bills that do one or both of these things are being passed or considered at the state level, and there is at least one at the federal level that has a lot of support. The stated aim of said legislation is to protect minors from inappropriate content, but I can't help thinking the real reason is further mass surveillance and control private behaviors, along with a desire to appear to have accomplished something amidst soaring food and housing prices and a general lack of effectiveness of lawmakers.

Most folks on Reddit seem to be opposed and see this as an attack on freedom of speech, the free internet, and an attempt at enforcing Christian morals. On a major tech news site, most of the comments on a recent news article were in favor, stating that parents need these tools and that it is the responsibility of the tech companies to provide them.

What does CE think?

It was bound to happen. What do you think happens when a kid walks into a 7-eleven and tries to buy a porn mag? Or if a kid walks into a strip club? He'd obviously get kicked out. Unfortunately this makes things more inconvenient for everyone else. So I have mixed feelings on this.

the difference is you don't need to submit your information to a database that says "please blackmail me and paint me as a pervert" every time you buy "mega milk monthly" from 7-11 (do they even actually sell adult mags, anyway?) or walk into your local "hoochiezzzz".

I do not trust porn sites to keep my license information secure. Nor do I want them to have that information to begin with.

Don't want your kids looking at porn? Use parental controls, keep your PC in an open area and/or give your kid a dumb-phone. But do keep in mind they are kids so they are gonna find a way to look at porn anyway. So you should also probably have some open, honest communication about sex and porn and whatnot as well.

No, though I could see a reasoning for if it's at a creator/distributor level, but even that'd be full of holes. As a general consumer it's stupid and just a roundabout way for them to try and track what mr and mrs jones get off on.

Why inject a microchip when we can just have that ID presented. Also who's gonna just sit and go through this crap, if it's a person I feel there's a serious security hole there, if it's AI then that's a whole new mess that'll "take jobs".

But seriously, this reminds me of a debacle in 2021 but in a more brute force manner. "We need to know what people are getting off to and when"

Nah, it's kind of a dumb measure. If I was a kid, I would just wait until mom and dad go to sleep or something, take their IDs real quick, and boom, there's some porn. It's just going to take slightly more effort than answering yes to "are you over 18?" or entering your birth date.

Ok, I won't lie. That part would actually be kinda interesting, to see a hotmap kinda like those old Halo and such ones.

I wanna know what streets are getting heated up in real time. It also needs gps location forced on so that a mobile device in the middle of the marsh or woods is hitting up the smut. I only want to know because I want to see real time the random map pin showing someone in the middle of a swamp looking at porn.

the don't look at pr0n laws are about many things.

Christian morals is not one of them.

Let's talk about christian morals: Being a good samaritan. Anoint the sick. Turn the other cheek. Love your neighbor. Whoever is free of sin cast the first stone. Thou shall not kill (HAR HAR 2A!! MAH GUNZ!!! DEATH PENALTTYYYY!!!). No divorce.

Just how christian are these GOP/maga people? They're quite the opposite. The so-called Christian stuff they push is actually just for control (abortion -woman's bodies, pr0n - other's sexuality) and for repopulation purposes because big corp needs fresh bodies because they're the minimum wage workers and the consumers of the future.

The government doesn't need to know what I or any other person faps to. If "parents" want to "protect their kids" then thry can use the multitude of parental controls that already exist.

It is the degeneration of society versus the degeneration of the person. Things that interact poorly upon society are things that the government should regulate, things that interact poorly on only the individual are things that should not be.
