Because almost nothing that is done legislatively "for the children" actually is. Outside of a handful of people involved in the process, nobody is thinking about children here. This is about thinking nobody should be watching porn, and about normalizing stricter control and monitoring of what people do online. Louisiana's version of this actually requires you to use your state ID to watch porn. Sure, internet usage is already tracked, but having to flash your ID and having said ID directly tied to that midget bondage you're about to watch is another level of invasive. Right now, these bills are easy to circumvent, but they are still steps down a dangerous path. As I mentioned above, there is federal legislation being considered that could censor whole swaths of the internet. The Republican narrative paints LGBT+ people as dangerous to children. How long before you need an ID to learn about drag or gay people or abortion? Or how long before companies can't host content like that at all due to legal liability? That legislative future may be much closer than you think, and the conservative Supreme Court won't do a thing. --- Cuteness is justice!
