Three. First one from 2009 to 2010, second from 2010 to 2015, third from 2017 to present (although nowdays I use my partner's car more, as she has a company car too and her one is more fuel efficient than mine).

Depends on how you define "own."

If you mean "cars that were meant to be mine and mine alone" the answer is two... but I only ever got to drive one of them. My mother gave me her 2002 Honda Civic as a graduation present and it served me well through part of high school, all of college, and a few years post-grad. My father had a 2000 Camaro that he wrecked and promised to fix then give to me. He talked that shit up for years. Never fixed it. Never got to drive it. Eventually sold the scraps.

If you want to include the cars I shared with my ex-wife, I suppose the number is four. I'm not including the car she had when we started dating, but I am counting the two cars she bought after we had moved in together/were engaged. One was a 2012 Subaru Legacy (roughly three years old when she bought it and that she destroyed by not changing the oil) and the other a brand new Impreza (I don't remember the exact year).

It's a lot of fun being in a relationship with someone where there's a tremendous imbalance in your financial situation. I've never, and likely will never, own anything that's as relatively new as my first car (which was about eight years old at the time) and I sure as hell will never own a brand new car. Honestly, at this point, the only way I'm likely to get another car is if someone dies.

2001 Ford Taurus, lasted 3 years. Dad bought it after he got his 300K pension. Bought all his kids cars.

2016 Toyota Prius. Loved this car, some asshole crashed into me and Im still fighting to get paid for this, happened a year ago. Ofcourse he made up some elaborate speeding story, even though I had a green light. Fucker. I have a camera now on my vehicle.

2014 Toyota Prius car I have now. Unfortunately the car market was way worse when I got this compared to the 2016 Prius, so Im paying more for a worse car with more mileage.

All told, 9, Id say.

• Not counting my first car, which was my parents that they let me drive exclusively.
• Counting one that I had for only a day or 2 tops. It was a lemon and basically just broke down, so I had it towed and they gave me something else.
• Counting 3 cars my wife has primarily driven, but I own(ed) them, technically

Actually I had the sunfire easily 16 plus years. Never spent a dime on it. God tier purchase for what I paid and it came with 2 wets of brand new tires plus the ones that were on it at the time.

The durango is a gas hog but I have a work vehicle that I drive daily so it's not a big deal, plus it works as a tow vehicle which I needed. It helps that it was meticulously well maintained so it looks and runs like new despite being 22 years old and just over 100k miles. I'd still like a better handling little car in the near future.

2006-2012: 2000 Chrysler Seabring. Had an issue with the serpentine belt when I got it (causing it to shut down and stop in slow traffic or at intersections and be difficult to start back up), it worked after driving through a flood somehow, driver's side window came offtrack, door stop on driver's side broke, CD player wouldn't let me put in or eject CDs without a lot of issues after a while. The last was all in 2011 or so.

2012-2023: 2007 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg Edition. Did the job well with occasional issues (a couple times one or more sensor went basically almost bricking the car for a bit) but the last year...driver's side front axel needed to be replaced, a headlight burned out, the brake sensor went, the sending unit died (which would cause my gas gauge to constantly read empty unless it was at full), there was scattered areas of rust in some spots, and last one was the driver's side door lock broke and it couldn't be manually or electronically locked at all. Finally got rid of it last Saturday.

2023 (as of last week): 2023 Toyota Camry XLE.
