the tangible passage of time helps these dumbass movies/shows about flying atomic supermen feel more realistic. With comics, you have literally the same people going from the 1940s to the 2020s and they'll barely age a day, if not actually get younger. But with movie/TV adaptations you can't really do that without excessive recasting, so at a certain point actors -- and the characters they portray -- will age out just like they would in real life.

I think this is why I'm not as bothered as a lot of other people are over the MCU's Phase 4 being focused on setting up entirely new heroes. Just about everybody we've seen during the Infinity Saga are literally getting old. They even established this as a character trait for Hawkeye in his Disney+ series; the man has hearing aids now because superhero work is taking a massive toll on his body. He just wants to fucking retire and live with his family.

And this is what would actually happen if we had superheroes irl. They'd age, run their course, hang up the cape for whatever reason, and a new wave of heroes (and villains) would rise up in their place. It would be a revolving door, not the same people doing the job into their ageless 90s. And that helps not only ground the live-action adaptations somewhat in reality, but it helps the audience to get attached to and care about the characters, because they know that any one of these films or shows just might be the last time they see them before the actor (and thus the character) is done for one reason or another.

I dunno why I posted this but it's just a thought and I'm curious if anybody else agrees.
