Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios will supposedly release the next Mortal Kombat game on Switch titled Mortal Kombat 1. Thats according to dataminer billbil_kun, who has a track record of leaking
The game will apparently cost $60 on Switch while itll be $10 extra on other consoles. Warner Bros. intends to release a couple of special editions, but it seems they wont be on Switch.

Windows Central reports that Mortal Kombat 1 is targeting a September 2023 launch, though thats not final. The site adds that a MK1 character pass will feature various properties owned by Warner Brothers, including Peacemaker from the DC Universe, and possibly even Homelander from comic book series The Boys, amongst others we have yet to confirm.

A teaser for the next Mortal Kombat game was recently shared, which we have below. It was thought that NetherRealm is currently working on a reboot of the series.

Nintendo pushed hard to get Mortal Kombat 11 on Switch. Warner Bros. had some concerns that it would be too mature, but it sounds like the game ended up being successful there. It would make sense then that Mortal Kombat 1 would end up on Switch as well.
Warner Bros. and NetherRealm should be making the new Mortal Kombat game official soon. Well let you know if its officially confirmed for Switch.

And that's not a complaint, franchises need to evolve.

But man I haven't enjoyed MKX or MK11 at all. It used to be such a fun series, goofy and colorful and now it seems so tame and lazy.

How a series managed to go from 6 dudes in the same outfit and yet only felt lazy with the recent installments is legit impressive.

Being a barn monster in the last move didnt help

MK11 was the only MK I ever regret buying. It was just a massive disappointment to me coming off of X. And it's purely from a gameplay perspective. I absolutely loved MKX's fast paced gameplay. It felt like the best MK ever. I didn't have any issues with 9's gameplay, but I guess it's because I hadn't had the fun of X. X was the first one I actually started playing competitively online.

That being said though, I'll still buy 12. >_> I REALLY hope they get rid of the stupid variation system though. I didn't like it in X, and they made it even worse in 11. The custom variations felt especially stupid since you couldn't even use them competitively. It was like what's the point. If they do bring back variations, I really hope it's no more than 2. And hope they aren't customizable.

Mortal Kombat 1 was Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat was Mortal Kombat 9.

This is referring to Mortal Kombat 12 as Mortal Kombat 1(1).

If they're putting it on Switch again I hope they don't go as aggressive with the online requirement to access modes other than Story and Training, so it can actually function as a game in handheld mode.

I'd love to see a reworked version of Hsu Hao. He always had a really fun moveset despite an awful design.

I also really want to see how Mavado would play in 2D with his bungee hooks, he was one of my favorites in Deadly Alliance.
