It tastes *less* than actual beer. Better/worse is a subjective matter (though I heartily agree with you), but more objectively, it's a much milder taste than the vast majority of beers available. That makes it easier to acquire the taste for those that don't immediately like it, and less likely that anyone drinking it for the first time will find the taste particularly offensive (especially if they try actual beer first, are put off by the surprising bitterness, then try a Bud and don't notice much flavour at all because they've been desensitized by something stronger).

I've had good beer I liked at first but then the aftertaste finally got to me like the Tony Gwynn beer. Beer isn't for me but I know my tastes have changed a lot. I use to completely despise whiskey for example but like it whenever I have it now.
