Even designer bags and clothes are being replicated with extreme precision where you literally can't tell. Dupes these days are incredibly realistic. They are disguised as other items on Amazon.

Dupes are basically the exact same thing as the real item these days, not like what we're used to back in the day when they were obvious fakes.

Some pens are more comfortable, some write smootherits an investment in the experience

In the AOC example I dont think she used a montblanc she used like a $30 pen but montblanc is the only expensive pen brand I know

Outside of luxury brands, there absolutely is a difference. It's just up to you to decide if the difference is worth it for the price

This is the case for alot of organic food items. It's a very good point.

The thing is TCs point only stands because of circular logic....an item is better because it's more expensive. But because it's more expensive then it gives off an intangible impression that the item is better and that is what justifies it's value. So Nike shoes vs cheaper adidas shoes...is there practically a difference? No. But Nike tends to have slightly more prestige than adidas which in TCs eyes would justify the price.

This topic really reads like TC is just sad because people aren't impressed by the status symbols they overpay for to create the illusion of being better off than their peers

I have one TC can't bs his way around. I invest in gold and silver, both the cheapest I can find including hand poured and also "collectible" numismatic pieces.

There is literally no difference beyond appearance between a hand poured blank 1 oz .999 pure round/bar (~$28) and whatever limited/premium mint piece that is also 1 oz .999 pure.

So yeah, sometimes you really are paying solely for marketing, branding and bragging rights.

Like others said, we know more expensive stuff tends to be superior, but at what price point is still worth it? Seems like the more expensive the item the bigger the diminishing returns on quality. Even having a lot of money, you gotta ask yourself at some point if it really worth it.

Exactly. Eventually youll be getting diminishing returns. Ive also always felt like the priorities are screwy. Theres never a priority on durability. Sunglasses, for instance. A 300 dollar pair will break just as easily as a thirty dollar pair. Its fucking bananas. If a pair of sunglasses is like a grand or two? If you cant run them over with a car youre a rube for paying that much.

300 sunglasses are extremely durablemine holds up against falls all the time. Randolph engineering did have the US military contract forever

Generic drugs are a medication with literally the exact same ingredients as the brand-name drug, are taken the same way, and give you the same effect. Yet they cost way less.

And in at least some cases, are made by the exact same company. The company that makes one of my Dads medications quit making the generic version, so they had to send out a card that takes of the difference in price off.

TC seems to be seeking for some kind of rationale or support for over paying for things.

Yeah I thought TC had a point because there's definitely a huge difference in different brands of stuff for you pay 50% more to get a better quality product. But bro talking more about paying 3-6 times as much. Waste of money off you ask me. But I'm always struggling to get by.
