I like them. I'll eat hard-boiled with a little salt. I really like the soft-boiled eggs you can get in ramen.

I can't give tips on poached eggs, but I can give tips on boiling eggs. My mother taught me the spoon trick to determine how cooked an egg is in boiled water. When you lift an egg out of boiling water, its doneness will be determined based on the speed on which the water evaporates from the shell. 6 minutes is a soft boiled egg, right around 10 minutes is a fully cooked hard boiled egg.

If the water slowly evaporates in like 5 seconds its soft boiled. If it evaporates immediately its hard boiled. I like to cook 5-6 at a time and have them for breakfast sandwiches over 3 days, though these days I just microwave eggs, and yes you can do that. 40 seconds in the microwave for 1 in a greased up bowl with a tiny bit of water, covered.

Sure, get a mug -- put water in there, enough to cover an egg, then a little vinegar. Put it in a microwave for about 15-30 seconds (depending on Wattage, egg size and water), if it's not done put it on for another 15-30 seconds -- but not really long. After a while, you'll soon be able to estimate how long you need, for your microwave.
You'll eventually get a perfect poached egg.

For a poached egg I have my water just below boiling, and just carefully crack the egg slowly right above the water so that youre gently laying the egg into the water out of the shell instead of letting it just drop

then after the white has set you just gently lift the egg out with a slotted spoon

Microwave huh? Interesting. How hot does the water need to be at the start?

I've heard of this method going very wrong. Like, hot egg exploding in your face and causing burns wrong.

If you're using "boiling water" (212F) to "poach" (158176 F), you're doing it all wrong no matter what medium you're using to heat the liquid you're cooking the food in.

I just use an egg cooker.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/2/0/5/AAEhCpAAEdc1.jpg

It's cheap, easy, fairly fast, and cooks the eggs pretty well. Fill the bottom with water, put the eggs in it, then go do something else for ten minutes or so until it buzzes at you.
Most of them even have the bits for making steamed omelettes.

I'm just saying, be careful. Sometimes water can get boiling hot in the microwave with no visual sign it's boiling.
