I was hoping they would have called it off.

I hate going downtown. Parking always sucks. Everything is expensive. And all the fuckin bums laying on the sidewalks.

Hope it's a cool case, like murder or sexual assault and not something lame like an unpaid parking ticket.

Its just the selection process. I doubt ill get selected. Im in one of the last groups and they hate people that have heavy police presence in the family.

What if the bums were really meth heads in disguise?

Last time they were literally passed out in the middle of the sidewalk by the courthouse and they were doing it in shifts.
When i went in at 7 there was some guy laying there. Then when i left and walked back to the car, it was a fat old lady.

In the exact same spot.

During my 32 years of living, I've been called to Jury Duty 6 times in my life. Meanwhile, my 56 year old Boss only got called into Jury Duty 2 times in his entire life. Like why the fuck do I keep getting picked?

I was summoned and picked a couple of weeks ago. I was quite annoyed at the case. A guy was pulled over for speeding, eventually arrested for OVI for being high, but the officer didn't even send him to jail. A couple of months later, the officer was involved in a serious OVI collision (unrelated), and because he was in the hospital (my hospital it turns out) he couldn't testify in that guy's case so the charges were dismissed.

So what does this idiot do? Sues the officer for unlawful detainment. And then represents himself. That was the case I sat on. It went exactly how you probably would imagine it would with a 50 something year old pothead defending himself.

The officer had suffered a TBI from that accident and he was still recovering during this case. The accident happened four years ago.

I thought you were gonna say the guy he let go hit him. A sad story. Not gonna tell you to just convict, but from what you said, I hope he's found guilty.

good luck man. Hope it goes quickly and smoothly for ya. Mine's in like 6 weeks and I'm already a little anxious about it lol. Last time was easy as fuck. Got dismissed within a few hours because all cases for the day were either dropped or settled, but you never know. That was 20 years ago too so it's been a while.

the only person I know who was actually selected ended up on a grand jury and he said that was a lot better because they just had to decide to indict or not. He said it was interesting. My mother was once in the final steps of selection but as the defendant (murder trial) was a student at the same college as me at the time, she claimed bias and was subsequently dismissed.

I got jury duty last year, and they actually were about to select me for it. Got called into the judge's chambers and everything.

Thankfully my dad went to jail back in 2010 so I was able to use that to get out of it. Thanks pop!

The trial was about multiple sexual assaults against children and I wanted to not be a part of that. Read up on it recently and he was found guilty on all counts which was obviously going to happen. Once they read the charges I think everyone was like "oh fuck that".

I'm probably due to serve again soon. Sat in on a trial about 8 years ago.

Woman suing a hospital because she was allegedly injured while recovering from giving birth and the nurse supposedly let her fall while she was being transferred from her bed to a wheelchair after receiving an epidural. Had a cracked vertebrae and other spinal problems

Problem was, there was no accident report filed at the time. Oh... and the lady also go into a car accident a week after leaving the hospital. An accident that was already proven in another lawsuit to be 100% her fault and was the actual cause of her injuries.

Her lawyer was the classic "ambulance chaser" lawyer you see advertising on late night Fox News programming. It was pretty bad.

Could be worse... Where I live they don't have to pay you to do Jury Duty. Me, a guy without a job would have to drive downtown on my own dime, pay attention when I have severe ADHD for at least several hours, and oh yeah... did I mention we don't get paid as they expect our employer to pay for our jury duty...

Last time I got called for Jury Duty I just straight up told them that I was recovering from Chemo (which was true), and I don't trust myself to be around people.

Don't Trust I eye witness testimony.

The claim that eyewitness testimony is reliable and accurate is testable, and the research is clear that eyewitness identification is vulnerable to distortion without the witnesss awareness. More specifically, the assumption that memory provides an accurate recording of experience, much like a video camera, is incorrect. Memory evolved to give us a personal sense of identity and to guide our actions. We are biased to notice and exaggerate some experiences and to minimize or overlook others. Memory is malleable.

https://tinyurl.com/mnn9zvv8

Also don't trust the police, they can lie on stand and nothing happens.

good point

my memory is not maliable. I am am exception to that rule, but it is a rule and for good reason. Most people do have unreliable and easily influenced memory. Human nature flaw :(.

You're right. Memory can't be trusted. generally, for the most part. Very frustrating.

good luck with telling that to a judge. If you ignore an obvious jury duty, at least where I live, you can be charged up to 1000 dollars, spend 5 nights in jail and have a permanent mark on your record. It's complete bullshit if you ask me, no one should be forced to do jury duty, but there should be obvious incentives for accepting it.

The judge may have better uses for his time, but the judicial system does not. Remember that the American law system booked people for downloading music. That's far less of an offense than missing jury duty.
