If anyone remembers, my neighbors made some false complaints that I make a lot of noise and have called the cops on me several times. They're still doing that kind of crap and well they make A LOT of noise. You can hear them arguing or her just talking. Well I decide to sit outside one day and I hear they're arguing.

I decided to say 'fuck it' because I was tired of just on the end of it and pulled my phone out and recorded it. You can't hear much of what he says but you can hear her say "YOU FUCKED YOUR GRAND DAUGHTER!" and then a pause "SHE WAS SIXTEEN!" and then she said "You brag about it! You're bragging about it!"

I have it recorded and I showed my land lady and then plan to go to the police tomorrow. I'm worried to be caught up in it, I don't like that kind of exposure to myself but this is the kind of stuff I think I should do just to be a good Samaritan. This guy, if true, deserves to rot in prison.

How do you know she's not? Even if she is falsely accusing him, this needs to be investigated, regardless. I'm not going to just say "Well she might be lying"

Its been a rough few months. Ever since they've moved in, its been nothing but shit. I can't take it anymore. I have trouble sleeping and its taking a hit in my performance at work.

It wasn't what I expected when I took my phone out either. I was just going to use it for noise disturbance.

Okay good. I was just going to use the randomness of the noise to prove that they were causing a disturbance. Like I said, I wasn't planning to use any part of that conversation.

Louisiana is a single-party consent state.

However, since you (the recorder) were not party to the conversation, that doesn't even fall under single-party. If you were outside and they were loud enough to be heard in a public space though, that might be different, idk.

tread carefully.

It was loud enough that I could not only hear it in my apartment but I can hear it sitting out on the stoop.

That's actually a good question tbh. I know if you want to record things in your house or business you can, but idk beyond that.

Consult somebody first, TC.

If it was recorded from a public area it should be okay. Even if the recording cannot be admitted as evidence, TC's testimony can be.

I just came from a shitty neighbor situation related to noise. Moving is a bitch and I assume your landlord wouldn't just let you out of the lease and nobody is kicking the neighbors as well. Sleep, work, it all suffers as a result. I was just there.

Consult a lawyer and then go from there.

"Removing yourself" is impossible. It's shitty advice unless you have freedom to move.

Yeah, its difficult to move. Small town, I signed my lease last month and I have to tip toe in everything I do in worry that hte cops will come again. Apparently the maintenance guy says that the couple owe people money for crack or something.

If I moved elsewhere, the rent would go from 450 to 900 a month. Of course there are worse sides of town where I won't be able to stay...

Holmes you don't need to be so hostile.

Yes, I apologize for my misuse of the word "impossible," so let me clarify for you. It would be an extreme nuisance, financially and logistically, to move after one month into a lease because of shitty neighbors. That doesn't even bring up the possibility that there are shitty neighbors in the new place, leaving TC back at square one.

Take a deep breath and relax.

Ask yourself, when your very own sleep, work, and livelihood are being destroyed over something you have limited control over (see above - only option is a massive financial and logistical burden that may not even work), "removing yourself" is not well thought out advice.

I would mention you recorded it for a noise complaint while you were just standing by your door:

Otherwise you have no evidence, the police arent going to bust you for recording people; people have their phones out recording shit constantly.

Well in the video, its clear I'm not near my door. Their door is near mine but i was just sitting outside and enjoying the breeze and then suddenly they started yelling. I wanted evidence about the noise they make so I thought to take it out but I get your meaning and I appreciate that. I'll mention that.

Plus, like someone else told me, its not about the recording that's for evidence but it could help with investigation. And I appreciate that you went into detail because I was worried that having recorded it was going to get me put in a cell lol. I just want my life back and I feel like I had to come forward if some girl was molested.

TC I think your best move is to talk to the Landlord/lady, and present this as a noise complaint to them. The Landperson can then make the call to the police then, if warranted using the recording as evidence to thier screaming. Your just submitting how loud they are to the landperson.

I've already discussed this with the landlady. These people have been a menace to everyone here. Sadly they can't just kick them out, they have to go through a process. Told me to go to the police about teh complaint and maybe that will kickstart everything.
