It's pretty bad, especially in the extended version.

Honestly, Fellowship of the Ring had really funky pacing. Two Towers and Return of the King were better. My favorite scenes, though, would be in Fellowship of the Ring with the whole beginning and the ending scenes.

Jesus this added 44 minutes?

How is Fellowship the one with "funky" pacing when Towers and Returns have at least 1/4 of their runtime dedicated to singular action sequences?

Meh, probably terrible wording but I was not a fan of the transition from Shire to Bree. At least from the book, the time between Gandalf learning about the ring and then leaving should have been better handled.

I mean, I don't. Two Towers is great but Return of the King is the best of the trilogy. I still find Fellowship low on the tier(even though I love that movie too)

Maybe this gets answered by the characters but if the one ring is so tempting with great power I'd expect it to do more for you than just make you invisible.

Its the best. RoTKs battle felt like overkill and had a feeling of been there done that after Two Towers.

That's hardly what it does but that seems to be something that it does to the regular people. It allows you to control the other rings and there's other powers with it.

The Two Towers is my favorite one because of the Ents. Treebeard is my favorite character in the Lord of the Rings universe.

The age stuff in fantasy confuses me. Aragorn is 87 but what does that really mean when we perceive him in his 20s or 30s. Legolas is probably hundreds of years old but frequently behaves like a young upstart hothead & showoff. Makes me ask what is the point of these crazy age ranges if we can't get meaningful information from it

Every time a dude kisses a woman or dreams about them I assume it's extended content (same as for fellowship)

This whole sequence with Aragorn I'm wondering how much is extended

OK but does that mean elves are basically kids for decades and teens for decades and just take longer to mature?

Because often also in fantasy elves act like all humans are unwise dumbasses because they don't live long enough to have any sense and, in the eyes of elves, are like vermin in how they're born and mature and die so quickly

I like that Gimli is comic relief but doesn't make situations worse to do jokes. I liked when he just reached up and twisted the orc's neck

If we go by DnD standards, Elves grow like humans do but their growth slows down with passing time. The only difference with DnD and Middle Earth is that Elves are immortal.

Seriously? Fellowship of the Ring has the tightest pacing and narrative of the trilogy. While Two Towers and (especially) Return of the King both have their flaws, Fellowship is a damn near perfect movie. Both in terms of adapting that portion of the book and just as a movie in general.

I thought fellowship was a weird movie but it may have been because of the extended content addition. At this point I'm not watching this as 3 movies so much as an epic. Taking an intermission rn

My major gripe was how fast the beginning is. I love slow burns and I felt that they could have spent more time in the Shire. That was my problem with the pacing. It just felt too fast. I didn't like Merry and Pippin's relationship with Frodo was. It didn't seem like three guys who knew each other for awhile.

I didn't like how much time is spent for Frodo having the wraith disease or how little it feels like the fellowship is together before they're like 'eugh the fellowship has failed'

Also it was dumb to bring Boromir, I know he was good at heart but like everybody has already seen he is the weakest willed and everyone literally knew he was gonna try it lol

1>3>2 and there's no reason to watch the extended versions of any of the movies tbh.

I wanted more personal time between characters but it was clear that they were moving things along to keep people going. Would have been nicer for there to have been a clear timeframe between scenes because it felt like Bilbo "just" left right around the time that Frodo leaves.

Well the book had Sam and his father being Bilbo and Frodo's gardener or something. Merry and Pippin seem to have a keener friendship with Frodo with even helping him move. The movie glosses over that and kinda has them bump into them along the way.

They're all one movie, just as the three books are just one long book. Discerning merit from one or the other is meaningless.

Also the most important quote in this entire movie is said in this one: "it's the dwarves who go swimming with little hairy women!"

Trust the audience to put things together. I don't need Gandalf's voice over restating what the shot of the dawn light at the window means
