Yes and no. Marvel and DC put out almost entirely superhero stuff and they make up the majority of the marketshare in sales, but in terms of actual books being published there's a ton of stuff that isn't superhero comics. You basically need to go to a comic book specialty store to see it all though, or the net if you knew what you were looking for, I guess. Way different from how manga is sold in basic places like gas stations in Japan even as far as I know.

I miss when you could grab a comic from gas stations tbh; some supermarkets have comics but the selection is usually pretty bare bones when they do.. I know DC was doing this thing where they would sell larger collections in them but the availability of particular issues has always been iffy and I ended up dropping them at some point.

No, they what kills comics is they don't make sense. Manga give you an a simple drive through town story.

Comicbooks give you bursting out your garage door, make some donuts, crash into a few park cars, crash back in the garage and then enter in your window instead of taking the front door like a normal person.

When I ask people about their favorite comic book stories, it is the ones that are side stories and have an ending. A clean ending. Not some weird in-universe reason to reboot the series.

Do what the television and movie adaptation do. Start, journey, clean ending.. that is it.

The problem is that they have to rely on established characters.
Creating new main characters are often seen as a risky move in comics nowadays. It's not like the 70s-80s where new heroes keep popping up.
And this leads to the stagnant feel that comic books always revolves around the same superheroes.

Manga always have new characters. Some are newer than batman and superman and getting more popular than they are.

It's that simple. With the exception of some election results, numbers don't lie.

The fact of the matter is, the general public are not hardcore party members.

There's multiple movies that came out relatively recently that all did poor numbers. There's the proof.

People watch movies and read comics to have fun. Not to be preached at by people born with a silver spoon.

Batman has been around for about eighty years, and nothing much has changed.
Sure, we'll get a constant parade of Robins, but that's about it. There's no real need to pay to read the same stories all over again, but preachy in a completely different way this time.

Like stories that come along and expect you to buy 5 extra books that month otherwise what you're reading makes no sense? Cause if it doesn't, that's your winner right there.

I can throw in my 2 as a reader of both if anyone's interested.

I don't know how people keep following solo superheroes, but I do like X-men since it has way more variety. However a lot of time these days they go way overboard with the crossovers and unnecessary extra books and restarts.

Like back in day you could just read Uncanny for hundreds of issues, even if the team has a bit of a switch up the numbering still continues. Now if the sales for a book dip ever so slightly they just "end" it, then have a #1 issue the next month that still essentially continues from the previous book. Makes it a nightmare to follow along because a popular book like X-Force keeps trucking along with dozens of issues, while X-Men is back at issue #1 again for no damn reason, even though both books are supposed to be happening concurrently. This happens across like 6+ other team books.

The crossover stuff is insane, especially when it's plot relevant. I understand they're trying to get people to buy more crap, but it makes me want to touch none of it.

I dont think one is better than the others I just think Manga is whats in and its a lot easier to get started with.

Kids care about manga now because thats what they grew up with.

They did cross epoch. People were quick to developed an amnesia when it comes to manga.
