It's not starring in a film that's different from what you're known for -- it's playing a character that's just as memorable as what you're known for. Daniel Radcliffe played a farting corpse and a hose-fucker. Everyone still looks at him and says, "There's Harry Potter." If he plays a mutant with bladed hands and a yellow Batman costume, that will be enough to break the Harry Potter curse.
