Good. You don't own cord progression. All pop music is iterative and derivative of each other. There's only so many ways you can play the same beats and notes. Might as well trademark the Purdy shuffle.

That's not quite how I'd phrase that. The record label owned the rights to his music and tried to sue him over it. That's why other artists have made it a point to get the rights to their own music. So the labels can't try bullshit like that
