Would you try a burger made out of mushrooms, sweet potatoes, carrots, farro, and quinoa?

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/shake-shack-leans-into-veggie-burgers-and-vegan-shakes-as-vegan-market-grows-120041476.html

Shake Shack's (SHAK) "Shroom burger" is getting another veggie companion on the permanent menu, the "Veggie Shack."

The veggie burger made with mushrooms, sweet potatoes, carrots, farro, and quinoa and topped with American cheese, onions, pickles, and ShackSauce will retail for $8.29. The burger is one of three new vegan and vegetarian items that will be added to the permanent Shake Shack menu in the United States.

The roadside burger chain is adding this and other items to its menu in an effort to tap into the vegan fast-food market as it builds momentum. According to Future Market Insights, the market is currently valued at nearly $19 billion, with expectations to reach nearly $28 billion by 2033. From 2023 to 2033, the market is expected to grow by 4.5% each year.

The other new items are both plant-based, including a non-dairy chocolate shake made with NotMilk, which will retail for $6.39, and a non-dairy frozen custard, also made with NotMilk, which retails for $4.29.

The veggie burger can be ordered on the app starting May 2 and will join the menu on May 5. Both the shake and frozen custard will be available beginning May 2.

Other fast food giants have tapped into the vegan and vegetarian space including McDonald's (MCD), with its partnership with Beyond Meat (BYND) in a three-year global strategic agreement that began back in 2021. The "McPlant" hasn't been added permanently to any menus in the U.S.

Burger King (QSR), meanwhile, offers the Impossible Burger. Under the YUM! Brands (YUM) umbrella, KFC tested a "Beyond Fried Chicken" with Beyond Meat while Taco Bell tested a "Beyond Carne Asada Steak" last September. Wendy's (WEN) jumped into the vegetarian fast food competition with its Curry Bean Burger, which is similar to Shake Shack's entry.

Shake Shack's permanent menu additions come as the fast food chain picks up momentum with Wall Street. Shake Shack stock year-to-date is up more than 32%. That's higher than McDonald's, up 13%, Burger King's parent company Restaurant Brands International, plus 9.4%, YUM! Brands, which is up 11%, and Wendy's, minus 1.9%.

As the company ramps up its menu plan, it is also ramping up growth. Shake Shack said it expects to open nearly 40 U.S. locations in 2023.

their food is mediocre and overpriced. only the shakes are worth going for. great shakes if you dont give a fuck about your health >_> pretty sure they're frozen custard rather than just ice cream so that's an extra level of flavor/cholesterol

Im not sure. I guess it would depend on what it tasted like. I assume not a burger based on the ingredients. But it could be good. So, Id probably try it Though, depending on the taste, it probably wouldnt hit the burger spot. But it could be tasty

This looks more like a Garden Burger rather than the more modern garbage that has come about from the vegan craze.

about a week ago I was eating with family and my mom tried making vegan burgers (no one in our family is vegan she just felt like trying). I think they were made of oats, black beans, and beet mostly? I'm not sure exactly.

Didn't taste like a burger at all, had the colour of kinda raw meat (thanks beets), had a very squishy gluey non-burger-like texture... I sound pretty negative here but honestly they were pretty good. Just didn't really come out like any sort of burger substitute. I also immediately unveganed it by having mayo on it <_<

Ok, true, I gotta reiterate, if I am going to eat vegan, than I will stick to salads, and fruit, cause I like salads and fruit, and I can be sure about whats in it. Don get me wrong, Im not trying to be holier than though. I like to eat healthy. But since I started my new job, it is much harder to eat healthy. Sometimes I get off so late that I have no time to prepare a healthy meal, it is so much easier to stop by someplace and pick up something not so healthy.

Healthy would be, some Costco rotisserie chicken, a tomato, some olives, some quinoa salad, or cole slaw(oil based, not mayonnaise), a couple bananas, and a bowl of cereal(Cheerios, or if I need something sweet, Honey Bunches Of Oats, or Cinnamon Toast Crunch). I only eat once a day, so that one meal is usually really big

Part of the idea with Garden Burger was that you *did* know exactly what was in it, and that feels like that's what it is here. That is as opposed to something like Impossible where even if you can literally look up the ingredients they are more on the "this is about making a crappy imitation of a meat patty" than "this is a tasty product." It's the different between Impossible being "Impossible beef" versus Garden Burger being unapologetically just a veggie patty. And if you aren't willing to eat veggies fried/grilled into a patty then that is a pretty sad existence because there are a lot of really good foods using fried/grilled veggie mixtures.

I wouldnt say its a sad existence. It just comes down to what people like. Just because you like something doesnt mean someone else would And some of it does come down to just taste I like veggies, but it doesnt mean Id like a burger made out of veggies, for example It like how I like veggies on their own now, but I dont like them on things like sandwiches, tacos, pizza, etc And if Im craving a burger, then Id probably want something that tasted similar to a burger, which would probably be something impossible burger rather than a Garden burger, I would think
