Were any of the Starfox games afterward able to recreate the magic?

I loved Adventures but as far as traditional Star Fox, Assault and Command tried new stuff but 64/Lylat Wars was the last traditional Star Fox game.

Adventures is an amazing game, but its such a departure from 64 that it doesnt really count lol. Its has its own magic.

But since then, for me, no, none of the Star Fox games have come close.

Which is amazing because youd think it wouldnt be that difficult to make an on-rails flight shooter thats short enough to be played in one sitting and allows for multiple play-throughs without ever feeling like a slog.

Star Fox 64 really is lightning in a bottle.

Star Fox 64 really is lightning in a bottle.

the thing about SF64 is it came out at the perfect time. Most gamers were coming out of the SNES/genesis era and were not used to seeing the main characters speak (unless you count ha-DO-Ken! And come ere!) all the time, nor were they used to real, fully polygonal 3d being used effortlessly.

so out of nowhere SF64 comes out, with full voice acting. Not just voice acting, but good voice acting. Who can forget one-liners like do a barrel roll!! And never give up, trust your instincts and uncle Androssssss!! ?

on top of that, the game was a remake of a game released in the not too distant past, so the whole transition, while jaw dropping, was not overwhelming.

it was basically lightning in a bottle, like someone else said here, and I dont think that can be repeated

Star Fox Zero was good. I feel like 64 was the peak though.

I feel like Star Fox Zero is the closest the series got to replicating the fun of SF64 but it has the unfortunate issue of a cumbersome and difficult control scheme to get used to, rather than something intuitive.
