I always tried to have some "work" nearby like a spray bottle and rag, and when people got to talking too much, I'd pick it up and act like I was in the middle of something and need to work. Sometimes it works, a lot of times people are oblivious to social cues or just dont care. Some of those people are lonely also. --- "They speak of progress, in red, white and blue. The thing that sucks is the customers really like me....but I need a break from that sometimes, and there are other people that could fill in from time to time. Climb the corporate ladder as much and as fast as possible saving all but what you need for your basic needs then retire ASAP. Look up the FIRE movement. That's the best way to deal with this and the further you get up the ladder, the fewer customers you'll actually have to deal with (but then you'll have the bloodsucking ass kissing colleagues).
