Ivany2008 04/30/23 9:28:04 AM #10:	The only thing it did worse than the original was Armstrong. I found Armstrong was presented as a far more capable alchemist in the first than in the second. They focused too much on him being weaker than his military sister in the second. Brotherhood is way too happy-go-lucky with its saccharine ending to an already generic shounen, while the original's ending makes it needlessly unsatisfying and completely missing the point of what we loved about the show we'd been watching up until then. And 18 years later I'm still ambivalent about how they handled ~~the gate and the whole "parallel world to ours" thing~~. Still despite that I of course love the original show and I still consider it my favorite anime of all time not counting comedies. The world they created and the concept of alchemy and the relationship between the 2 Brothers and their journey just can't be beat. Not to mention that the anime had a way better thematically tied link to the homunculi origins. After over 10 years I've soured much less on brotherhood and can appreciate the 1 or 2 good things it had. But watching it as it was airing was miserably disappointing, discovering how it was nothing more than a shounen with none of the character development of the original.
