Last month we moved to 2 days/week in office (wed/thurs), we said it was actually 8 days/month just to make things easier on people in case they needed to shift things around

Now I am getting an email that if we take a sick leave or a vacation day on wed/thurs, we need to make that in-office time up later on so that we still reach the 8 days/month quota

like wtf...how does that make any sense? I specifically take those days off on in-office days so i don't have to go to the office, not so that I have to make it up later

I'm taking a 2 week vacation next month...which means they want me to come in for the entirety of the 2 weeks I am working! like what...that is outrageous. I'm actually creating more work for myself by taking a vacation now...

How does this make any sense?!

your colleagues are actually just in awe of your watches and shoes. they only want you in the office so they can gaze upon them

Dang, so when your job has a requirement to go in a minimum 8 days a month, you actually need to go in a minimum 8 days a month?

Life is unfair.

how...? they are essentially holding my WFH days ransom. if i take a day off to make my life easier, it now only makes my life harder further down the road

let me explain this to you in terms you would understand. it's the equivalent of you saying "im going to take a vacation" and your boss saying "yeah that's cool...just come into work on a weekend later to make up for it"

It's more like you need to work in the office for 8 days a month and you're surprised that your work requirements dont change when you call in with a tummy ache.

Nevermind the dishonesty of acting like you're being asked to work a minute longer and not having your time off respected when that's not what's happening.

I dunno what to tell you bud. You said you specifically use your time on those office days, so you really shouldn't be shocked by any of this.

we are in the office 2 days a week, wed and thurs. that is when my coworkers are in. if i have to "make up" the day for whatever reason, I'm in the office on a mon or tues with literally no one else. it serves no purpose besides to "punish" me. try supporting basic workers rights. WFH should be the norm, if they want a day or 2 in the office I don't like it but whatever. but when they start bending policies to be as malevolent as possible, that's where i draw the line

That's pretty shitty tbh. If you're still on your probationary period, I'd start applying elsewhere. If they're this bad in the regard, it's unlikely that they're "clean" in other regards

Oh my sweet lord, you are asked to be in-office 8 days a month. Maybe take stock before you start spouting about being denied your rights.

ive been in this division 3 months but i've been with the same agency (different division) for 4 years, so no probationary period. I can transfer again, but it will create a lot of drama and could burn bridges (i have a lot of clout in this division)

the policy is 2 days per week, the 8 days per month was meant to create additional flexibility, not to add additional constraints around holidays/sick leave. they are violating the spirit of the policy

Yknow, yeah, I didnt before, but I get what you're saying there. It's kinda working backwards to flex it one way and then back. To me, it looks like that first policy wasnt fully thought through and they gave people a taste of something they weren't intending.

but yes the policies are newer and not very well thought out/defined
