Those of you saying no- do you have an example of a cliffhanger from season finale to season premiere that pissed off more people? I'm not saying there isn't any, just can't remember off the top of my head. I remember how pissed off people were when that happened

Also, acknowledging that TC said cliffhanger which doesn't necessarily have to mean season finale to season premiere

Negan is one of the rare thing that was still good in the Walking Dead. I barely care about the rotating cast anymore

It was the worst that I've personally seen, yeah. Knowing that Negan was about to kill someone, but having to wait six whole months to find out if they deviated from the comics or not. Then when it came back, they did that bait and switch with Abraham, only to immediately kill off Glen anyway.

I think it is, but partially for reasons outside of being dragged out. Negan killing Glen was brutal and it was meant to be. It was literally gore porn and people had the audacity to be offended as if some of the other brutal kills on the show, albeit not as visceral, weren't there to sate the viewers bloodlust.

I remember some people being so offended they dropped the show and I was like "Oh now it's over the line?". Fucking hypocrites.

Never cared to watch the show, what makes it bad? What makes a cliffhanger in general good or bad?

It wasn't about it being brutal. It was about fans being upset that they killed him off. He was the fan favorite. And they psyched out comic fans by killing Abraham first. Like woohoo they didn't kill Glen afterall... Nope.

It killed interest so much that it went on another 5 seasons with several spinoffs

It didn't completely kill the show, but that's where the viewership decline started.

The big cliffhanger (season 6 finale) had 18 million views and was the peak of the show. By the end of season 7, the show was down to 11.3 million viewers. End of season 8 was 7.9 million, then down to 5 million for season 9 and 2.93 million for season 10.

Some people did that over a gay kiss and claimed the show wasn't kid friendly anymore lmao

I met the actor that played Abraham the summer of that cliffhanger and asked him who it was an no word of a lie, his uncomfortable reaction to the question (which was joking/playful on my part. Not a dead serious 'hey who got Negan's bat' type thing) made me think it was him.

In fairness, pretty much every show that runs for like 10 seasons sees big drop offs per year. Maybe not to this extent but it's not out of the norm

Viewers are soft.

their reaction to glens death is the reason why creators chicken out on telling their story correctly and try to please everyone instead.

Nah people were complaining about the brutality too which is kind of ridiculous because it's like "What kind of show did you think you were watching?".

Never cared to watch the show, what makes it bad?

The entire season is spent building up to an iconic scene from the source material. Everybody ends up watching the season finale in anticipation of a major character death happening, but instead of actually showing the kill, they decide to stretch out the reveal of who actually died until the premiere of the next season.

People watching the show at the time were basically given blue balls for 7 months because the showrunner wanted to force a cliffhanger to get people hooked for Season 7. It'd be like if Season 4 of Breaking Bad ended with the explosion in the nursing home, but they don't actually show Gus' death until Season 5.

And by that point, the show had already been on thin ice because of a cheap fake-out death that occurred earlier in the season that was so poorly thought out that they literally had to break their own filming continuity just to get the character out of the situation alive.

It went on for another five seasons because AMC refused to let it die. It was the only cash cow they had left.

There's virtually zero interest in any of the spinoffs.

Who killed JR from Dallas is the biggest cliffhanger ever, and a lot of people were disappointed how it was handled.

Lost had some huge cliffhangers as well, like the end of season 3 where the flash forwards were revealed.
