Harry Potter actor Jim Broadbent shares support for amazing JK Rowling

Another Harry Potter star has come forward in their support of JK Rowling amid the authors ongoing controversy.

Rowling has long been a critic of gender ideology and faces continued criticism for her opinions on trans people.

While former Harry Potter child stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson have spoken out against the authors views, some of the older actors to have appeared in the fantasy franchise, an adaptation of Rowlings novels, have jumped to her defence.

One such star is Jim Broadbent, who played Professor Slughorn in two Harry Potter films.

He described the backlash against Rowling as really sad, telling The Telegraph: I think JK Rowling is amazing. I havent had to confront [the backlash] myself, but I would support her in that, I think, if it came to it.

Other stars to have supported Rowling following the criticism levied against her, which has included death threats on social media, include Helena Bonham Carter and Ralph Fiennes.

Bonham Carter, in an interview with The Times in 2022, called the backlash horrendous, stating: Shes not meaning it aggressively; shes just saying something out of her own experience....

I don't quite understand these people
They know having opinions like this will make it harder for them to get work, especially movies marketed to all ages and still they insist on sharing
Whatever happened to 'I'd prefer not to discuss politics' regardless of sides? You're an actor.. not a politician

Because they don't look into anything Rowling has said deep enough to even know it's become political. Also if you look into Bonham's personal life she's not a good person

Everybody says that about every celebrity

its almost like nobody is that good of a person if you look hard enough

makes sense that boomers and Gen Xers support Rowling, and the millennial actors are more liberal

Is it possible that people have good parts and bad parts at the same time?

There is no room for nuance

you can do a thousand good things but if you did one bad thing once youre forever condemned

Also its kind of hilarious. The old generation of course agree with jkr, they're not long for this earth anyway. The young stars know its not a good idea to upset people that they've still got another 30 years with so they're trying to show their wokeness (that being said I'm sure dr and ew are actually sincere about it though)

No one gives regular people that much "nuance", but when you have lots of money and power, people will make excuses for the awful things if you spend enough money or kiss enough babies to look good.

Bad weighs more than good. If some random jackass committed armed robberies, no one would be going "But he was a hard worker and gave back to the community. Do a few bad decisions tarnish his entire character"

But if someone has a lot of good press and donates millions to various charities? Why, they could get away with murder (maybe even literally) in the eyes of people who like them. "Would you rather they had helped no people just because they didn't help some certain people? Are they really bad just because they did a few bad things?"

Even being a good person appears to be a privilege of the rich and famous. There's some kind of implication that they are just inherently better people because they have weight to throw around.
