It was amazing. The physics were outstanding, and the particle effects were nuts for their day. The crates could burn 'realistically,' you could stack crates, stand on them to float around, throw enemies into railings and walls, etc.

It even had a playground mode with crates and spawnable enemies to experiment with. I put a lot of hours into the game when it came out.

The game was free on PC a few years back, not sure which site had it for free anymore.

I've started it recently but was a bit disappointed. The shooting and melee combat are janky af. I understand that the main focus was the powers, but at the time I wasn't using pressure sensitive controller so I didn't get to fully experience it. I'ma give it another shot with proper controller

Admittedly, I haven't played it since the old days. The controls probably haven't aged like they ought to, but I just remember how insane it felt back when I played it. Sadly, I never owned it. It was something I rented several times from Blockbuster.

Played it years ago on X-Box, and I did not like it mainly due to the controls and camera. They were not good at all.

I tried to pick it back up a few years back and it aged horribly.

Like the throwing physics just feel weak as all hell compared to something like The Force Unleashed.

Fuckin' great for its time, though.

If I remember right, it was one of the first games to use the Havok physics engine, and games didn't even come close to that level of physics detail prior to it. It was a huge deal at the time.

Makes sense that it didn't age super well. Physics have gotten pretty crazy in recent years. That's where a lot of processing power goes now.

I got it used for Xbox and the game was a bit scratched. Couldn't play to far without it crashing but it was great up until it did.

Yeah, post #2 mentioned that, too. I remember there being a sort of rivalry between the two games.

Another iteration of the Antz vs. Bug's Life, Megamind vs. Despicable Me, Infamous vs. Prototype, GTA vs. Driver style of comparisons. I never did play Second Sight. I was too busy playing Psi-Ops lol

I remember enjoying the demo.

I always loved Advent Rising, but it's very janky in its own way. A lot less focus on physics interactions, more just a power fantasy that makes you feel insanely OP by the end when you've leveled all your skills up. The first cool skill you get is picking up and throwing things telekinetically, but it builds up from there.

It's awesome too. I like it better than Psi-Ops, actually.

Oh, Majorgeeks has it for free.

I loved it, but haven't played it since then, so I couldn't say if it's aged.

I felt like Control was a good spiritual successor

The main character looks like Jon Bernthal
