Do you just go off which one is better and bandwagon that team. A recent example is LA has two basketball teams. Did Clippers fans hop to the Lakers bandwagon since Lakers are still in playoffs? Or Nets fans bandwagon to the Knicks?

The Clippers and Lakers are an interesting example because they play in the same arena. But for situations like the Yankees/Mets, or Cubs/White Sox, a lot depends on the neighborhood you're from.

This is prolly the closest distance among pro teams. Neighborhood lines determine which team you follow.

When the 2000 World Series happened with the Mets vs Yankees, it literally turned into some Nintendo vs Sega shit in school. Even the teachers and principal were going in on it.

This was in Queens, not far from the old Shea Stadium.

I think in most cases it probably stems from whatever team your parents, friends, or neighbors root for. But sometimes it could just be timing. My Dad is a Mets fan, so logically, I should be a Mets fan. But when you were a kid in the late 90's it's hard not to end up a Yankees fan. Now I watch both teams equally, and I'd consider myself slightly more of a general baseball fan than a Yankees fan.
