Places like New York, Illinois and and California would have to lose some teams. But each state would have 4 teams to represent them, 1 per sport Everyone in the state would have pride for their team instead of just people who live in a particular city People take pride in a team even if it's based on a city rather than the state. People tend to pick whatever team is the closest as that's what they'll more likely be able to go to games of.
