...haven't you? I believe a congressperson introduced this legislation, from like a standard 5 day work week, to 4. Do you believe it will ever happen, but most of you would like it to happen right?

People will fight it tooth and nail, but eventually it will happen. Whether it happens in my lifetime, idk.

That said, in my current role at my current company, it wouldnt make much difference. Id be working 5 days regardless.

There's this fundamental disconnect where entitled lazies expect a 25% pay increase - they want a 4 x 8hr week. A true "4 day workweek" is 4x10. And these people willfully ignore logic, then throw their hands up and say "well i expected you to know it was 4x8! Gib mony!"

People should be working less.

Only during the Industrial Revolution have humans, in history worked more than now.

This would require me to work more hours per day and I'm not down for that

people work 40-60+ hours because they need the money. more time off means poorer Americans. Yes a 36-38 hour work week would be nice, but that doesn't pay the bills .

people that have the luxury to work less than 30 hours a week already have good paying jobs. People aren't working a lot because of mean companies making them work overtime. people are working a lot because they trying to get out of poverty. Look at youtube self-help videos. they suggest anyone who is struggling with money to work every hour they are awake.

There's also the issue that less work means less production which means fewer supply of things and the more they will cost because demand hasn't changed.

Hell that's a issue now actually.

dude just hire more employees so everyone gets a 3 day work week XD

Just do UBI already thats obviously the direction things are headed with AI and automation and the longer they wait the worse things will get

Hours worked and productivity are not the same.

Too much time in one day or week and you get worse productivity per worker past a certain point.

This compounds when work causes issues with access to key services, healthcare, and does not allow sufficient time to handle personal, family or other issues.

But if people are gonna be working less, wouldn't that mean they're making less money? I can see people who are already struggling to make ends meet reaching a breaking point if such a proposal goes through...

The answer is simple. Lower pay/compensation to high ups. Less money spent on dividends and shit. Stock buybacks are banned or severely limited. Etc.

Pay workers more to do less(bare minimum is far more to do the same)Pay the highs ups less and tax them more. The excess money is there. Income inequality has soared for decades.

This inequality and cynical unchecked exploitation is incredibly corrosive to society.

If that was true AI and automation that work 24/7 wouldn't boost production significantly. So ultimately this is a job specific issue and generally limited to mostly poorly unoptimized white collar jobs.

Contruction workers probably wouldn't be able to meet their usual strict deadlines if schedules dropped from 5/6 days a week to 4.

Factory jobs wouldn't be able to produce and ship as many goods as they usually do with the time allotted.

Deliverys would slow to a crawl as drivers would have less time overall to transport goods to a X amount of customers over a Y distance.

I doubt it will ever happen what with how much power corporations have. Hell we are already losing WFH.

How about we just do UBI so that people who dont want to participate in the rat race dont have to? If you want extra money, youre welcome to look for a job, but the entire workforce is crumbling due to corporate greed and automation.

But it's true at the rate I'm being paid honestly 40 hours a week doesn't cut it.

If I'm working less that just means I'm going to have to definitely get a second job and I'll still be working more I don't see anything dumb about pointing that out.

Not gonna happen anytime soon. For sure not on a federal level. Some states reps asked for it (California), but realistically it's not gonna pass to be mandatory. Four tens can happen eventually, but not four 8s, except some white collar jobs.

i already do 4-10's

its great having a 3 day weekend every week.

I would prefer to do 3-12/4-12s on alternating weeks to get that lil bit of overtime and a 4 day weekend every other week.

Don't peoples realize if this went into effect you would be paid the same as if you were working 40 hours?
