True, but often times people can still experience dramatic mood increases by eating better, socializing more and exercising regularly.

This isn't a cure-all, that's for sure, but not everyone who's depressed is suffering from clinical depression. It's good advice to at least try those things first to see if they help.

My brother is like that. Tells me just to be happy... Like I don't want to be happy. Luckily I'm doing better.. finally got into a psychiatrist, got the right meds. Had a sleep study and have sleep apnea so I got a CPAP machine and it's giving me more energy because I'm actually getting quality sleep. Which helps me get outside more, get stuff accomplished. My life has definitely changed for the better the last couple months.

The eat healthy, workout, get sleep advice isn't the end all be all, and that advice isn't directed at people already doing those things and who are still depressed. It's aimed at people who are depressed but haven't done anything about it.

Agreed. See for me socializing made my depression worse. Severe social anxiety. And when I ended up homeless for a year because of my first ex it got way worse. That was a pit I never thought I'd get out of until I found an abandoned puppy when I was trying to find a place to sleep. I saw it shivering there and it felt like a snap I guess. I took that puppy and got help. That puppy was everything to me. Ill never not have a dog after that. Animals help my depression.....so I understand. Everyone is different and the solutions for their problems aren't always the same.
