Ive never even thought about it, but the last year multiple people have suggested I consider it. I met a guy whos a staffer for a senator on the East Coast and talking with him has been fascinating.

I dont have any skeletons in my closet(besides posting on CE), and I have a fresh perspective on politics I suppose.

I dont subscribe to this whole talking points bullshit that Americans get tricked into believing are the major issues of our day.

You know what major issues NEVER get discussed by politicians? Simply making the world a better place for everyone. Not just for some. We get so wrapped up into believing this narrative that there are only 3 major issues each election cycle, and honestly its just stupid as fuck.

politicans are meant to be servants of the people they represent. At the end of the day, all anyone wants is to live in a city or state thats slightly nicer than it was yesterday. If the actions of a politician only make it nicer for a certain sector of individuals, theyre not doing their fucking jobs.

Are there any good politicians today? Id argue the percent of decent politicians is incredibly low.

If we do nothing but continue to elect people who dont have everyones interest in mind, nothing will ever change. Weve literally
been brainwashed into being cynical about politics, when it doesnt have to be that way at all.

So continue to elect shitty officials who do nothing but follow the same agenda weve been arguing about for 40 years?

Why the fuck should anybody vote for somebody whos response to being asked about the issues is I dont buy into this issues thing, just trust that I want to make things better for people!

That is a bullshit meaningless dodge of literally the most reasonable question to ask somebody talking about running for office.

You literally need to have stances. You need to know why you're running. "I will make things better" is a goal. It's not a plan.

I've been a campaign manager in local races three times and the thing I kept having to tell people is that "I will listen" is not a policy. Eventually, you need to actually act on what you've heard.

Case in point: One of the candidates I coached was very idealistic and, like you, not politically engaged beyond headlines and very earnest. There was a proposal for a new Royal Farms in our area that was a terrible idea for a lot of reasons. I, and many key voters, were opposed to it. Another guy on the campaign, who was also not political, was in favor of it. Even within this one campaign, just to the campaign workers internally, the would-be politician couldn't say whether their vote would go for or against Royal Farms if they were in the office they were running for.

important, yet most people dont even understand how their local governments are ran or how they function

If I know anything in this world, it's that you definitely should run for office. Let your ideas shape reality, but be careful. You don't want to run into the common pitfall of transporting an underage prostitute across state lines and having sex with her. You'll definitely want to try and avoid that

-rethink and reshape the way America sees the role of our government and our constitution.

This is a controversial one. But we need to take a step back and reanalyze why weve been holding onto a hundreds of years old document that was shaped by white slave owning men.

We have to admit that our current government setup has some major flaws, and that grasping onto the constitution like its as holy as the Bible is one of the reasons why we cant ever make any progress towards a better country.
