I feel like I've been doing stuff in the wrong order.

• I got my dream car before my house
• I got solar, smart thermostats, smart smoke detectors, a new computer desk, a new bed, and a workout machine before blinds

I'm surprised you didn't have a break in. I did the first night I slept at my condo. Someone saw boxes and decided to break in and steal.

Part of the problem was that I wasn't sure what I wanted, and I took forever to actually look into it. Before I got my house, I was 100% convinced that I wanted smart blinds that I could raise/lower/open/close with Google Home or whatever. Then I saw that those blinds were double, sometimes triple the price of normal blinds, so I decided against that. I also figured I wasn't going to be opening/closing the blinds very often, and if I DID, I would have to keep swapping out and/or charging batteries.

I opted for some zebra/dual-sheer blinds with a corded control method that attaches to the right side of the window, and I really like how they look.

I got electric blackout shades that I can control from my phone

2 years!? Damn I've used a sheet or a blanket in emergencies.

I really should have done this a long time ago. I should have put more time into making a decision.

They're also called dual sheer blinds. They have "front and back" layers that will completely block visibility or give openings to look through, depending on how you set them with the control mechanism.

We had ADT at our old house. Cancelled it when we sold but kept the sign, which sits outside our current house

Why are you hiding the inside of your house? What do you have to hide?

Not having blinds is risky if you have wood floors. They can be sun bleached.

Also, I once had someone come by and try to sell me solar before I was ready to sign up. He went through the whole sales pitch and I ended up telling him no. The company called me the next day and asked "Why I had signed up with another solar company but told them no."

I was confused because I hadn't signed up with anyone at that point. He said they saw a sign from a solar company in my front yard. I told them they were full of it in a polite way because I didn't have any solar company sounds in my front yard. I realized months later that ADT also sells solar, so they thought the sign for my security system meant that I had signed up with solar from them.

The sign was there when they came out, though so oh well.

Yeah, I'm fortunate that my windows downstairs are north facing so the floor doesn't get direct sunlight. There is a small south facing window by the front door, but it has an awning(?) over it on the outside and the window only gives a view of the carpet stairway.

It has been great for the 3 years I've had it.

my apt got renovated and landlord took down blinds. I wouldn't even move back in until new blinds were installed. I didn't feel like waiting so my stepfather measured the windows, bought the blinds and installed them. I didn't have the patience >_>. Landlord is responsible for that though and so he reimbursed the cost of them (as well as bathroom fictures) so it was no big deal at all. He was just rushed for time. As it is, the renovations took twice as long as expected since the more he worked on it, the more he wanted to update, and I was patient about it and knew he really wanted to keep me as a tennant (and I wanted to stay for that matter), so all was well. I just wasn't about to go a day with no blinds though (it's 1st floor).

Yeah, the previous owners also had some security system and they left those window devices (the ones that go off if they sense broken glass I think) on all the basement windows too. They don't work, but they're a nice deterrent. Also have Ring cameras on the front and back doors which do actually work.

So our house is "protected" by "three" different security companies >_>
