Just watched the special. Labeled with spoiler tag in the title, but there will be no spoilers in opening post.

The CGI, especially in the climactic battle, is laughably bad. Just like some of the other decisions they went with. But I give a pass on the CGI because, honestly, who watches Power Rangers for that?

I liked Minh's character. A bit insufferable at times, but that's just actual portrayal of how teenagers are.

I would've liked a bit more cameos, but at least it brought together somewhat well the Power Ranger universe and lore.

Did you guys watch it?

I watched it tonight, I enjoyed it for what it was lol. Pretty much agree with what you said. Liked Minh, glad to see Zack and Billy back, especially since Zack was my fav character. I stopped watching when Zack, Trini, and Jason left so this was good for me cast wise. Story was ummm very Power Rangeresqe lol.

I haven't watched it yet. I plan to, even though I know it will disappoint me. Can't be worse than some of the terrible seasons we've had before though, right?

It was a nice hit of nostalgia and a decent enough Power Rangers plot, but it definitely had some deficiencies.

WARNING SPOILERS

Pros:
+ The ranger suits look amazing
+ Use of Trini and long overdue dedication to her
+ Minh Kwan has a decent story
+ Walter Jones remains incredible
+ Alpha 9 is perfect
+ The way they remove the rangers who aren't there feels like classic Power Rangers, part Terror Toad and part Peace Conference
+ A lampshade on Billy & Aquitar towards the end
+ The billboard
+ Down the road
+ Barbara Goodson

Nitpicks:
. The acting for Minh Kwan. I don't blame the actress; it's clearly the same sort of direction current casts get. I was getting huge Beast Morphers flashbacks from the way she had to emote. Great fight scenes.
. Budget. It makes sense that this passion project doesn't have much money. The huge lack of extras, limited cast, empty sound stages, CGI that came from a PC game that runs on Windows 95 (yet still looked better than the first movie!), and music rights. There was an emptiness to it all, especially in the graveyard and command center. Not a negative because it's the budget.

Cons:
- David Yost's acting. I don't know if it's past trauma, old age, pain, heavy amounts of botox, or medication, but he was an absolute mannequin the entire time that was super distracting as a main lead. Jones, Sutherland, and Cardenas were actual people with expressive faces. I feel like I'm bashing but I also feel like... hmm. Like, anxiety and vanity sent him to go plastic before the shoot because he seemed mostly natural from some con vids I saw a few years back so this is definitely a recent choice. I love Billy and he is one of my favorite rangers, and Yost is a wonderful human being, but there was something so stressful and upsetting about his whole being here that I can't not mention it.
- The CGI Megazord battle. I get it. You want to include it. And the CGI summoning of the zords was actually really good, but I think setting it on the moon to try and hide its flaws made it look worse than it actually was due to the lighting.
- The Command Center set. It was just too empty. Why did it need to be so wide? Why was the room so empty. It had two consoles, Zordon's tube, a viewing globe, and an endless expanse of blue. Absolutely terrible set.

I enjoyed it well enough and got nice hits of nostalgia. I'll definitely watch it again and just wish for it to have at least a few extra thousands in budgetting, if not hundreds of thousands. The effort was there and I'd love to see a sequel.p

I'm hearing bad things about this thing

I mean, I thought this was like, one of those things you knew what it was going in, not worth the effort of hating it or critiquing it unless you're a loser, like the Mario movie

but yea, some of this stuff is pretty vocal

Finally watched this then.

Guess I'll go with MM here and list some stuff.

Pros:
+Barbara Goodson. Glad she came back for this.
+Easter eggs were quite nice, and nods to different teams and things associated with the Zordon era were a neat touch
+Walter as Zack was fantastic, easily the best performance out of everyone there.
OPENING MORPH+EXPLOSION WITH MUSIC BLARING IN THE BACKGROUND
+Relatively fitting tribute to Truy Thang and then a nice dedication at the end to her and JDF.

Nitpicks:
..No actual Bulk and Skull. They did get a little nod with the advertising board though.
..Not enough screaming and it wasn't cheesey ENOUGH.
..Alpha 9. Kinda just there for me, not really a big deal but loads better than whatever the hell they were doing with Alpha in Turbo.
..Budget. Now I know it wasn't going to be stellar but I am not even sure if the CGI is better than what was in the 1995 movie! Looks awful for the zord fight, and every fight scene baring the first one lacked quite the OOMF that ranger fights usually had. No feeling of impact with the putties who can't even make noise properly and the action was rather poor jusy about every time. Really coulda used a better budget.
..The way characters were written out/not able to appear was kinda believable and totally what I expected, so that was nice?

Cons:
-Minh Kwan. Sucks so much. Really not a great dynamic and honestly it is by no means a bad performance. However, she could easily fit on a team with ranger teams of TODAY, not the team there now. Stuck out like a sore thumb and seemed to constantly want to prover herself, seek revenge, standard stuff that new ranger teams have to figure out for themselves and I call bullshit on the morpher suddenly working for her when she figures out the right thing to do.
-Having the final fight take place on the moon. Rita just chucking her minion out and then lightly tossing the staff to the moon compared to how she makes them grow in comparison to the original series is pretty limp tbh.
-Rocky. HE SUCKS. Never been a particularly great Red....although I suppose this is a nitpick but he belongs at the bottom so I ain't changing it.

Overall a healthy dose of nostalgia that can carry this hard but it gets let down by budget, Minh may get on your nerves and ultimately some performances were a bit wooden but overall I don't regret watching it.

Just watched it last night, I enjoyed it but really thought it could be better. The low budget, lack of side characters, and just the general empty feeling of it really made it was constantly missing something. Could've definitely used more cheese and references. The CGI battle at the end was kinda meh too, I wish they just made full use of the suits. Power Rangers is about dudes in suits fighting, not CGI.

That said, it was a fun watch. Definitely hit some nostalgia chords for me, just wish there was more.
