Ratchetrockon 04/19/23 5:41:57 PM #52:	also for isekai i wonder why not many people mention the The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. first book released in 1977. the mc legit gets teleported to another world after being hit by a police car. also he is an extremely special character in the fantasy world. also he sexually assaulted a woman in the beginning of the first book (not unlike the mushoku tensei mc). except in this story he gets shunned hard by people that know about it. i guess the mc also goes through some BS redemption arc but tbf he is a POS forever (same w/ rudeus greyray in mushoku tensei). he even got the girl pregnant and he meets his daughter in a later book (next one i think [similar to rudy in a way]). he is afflicted with leprosy which made him a failure on earth (because he became insecure, his wife left him, shunned by community, etc..) but in the fantasy world people mistake him for some legendary entity (he uses this to his advantage when he sexually assaulted the girl) and he even has strong magical powers. damn this series imo has got to be like the earliest western fantasy that is the most similar to isekai Kimbos_Egg posted... there is no difference between harry potters "world" and the muggle "world". Out of the ones you listed, I've only seen Gate, and I wouldn't consider it an isekai really, at least in spirit. I think the isekai term means something different depending on each person. Some wouldn't say virtual reality stories like SAO aren't isekai because it's a simulation, but I would think those count if they can't leave. Anyone on the other side when it shuts down is stuck in whatever world they inhabit at the time.
