Before the new show comes out.

I just need to finish THE WINDS OF WINTER, and then do either A DREAM OF SPRING or volume two of FIRE & BLOOD, and slip in a new Dunk & Egg between each of those in my copious spare time and that will keep me ahead of Ira and his merry crew for a few more years.

It definitely seems like he's more happy being a producer or just someone who can oversee production of a tv show based on something he already wrote more than writing new material.

From software new how to handle Martin. Everything he wrote for that game takes place like a thousand years before the start of the game and has no impact on anything. His role was finished before pre-production had even completed.

Firmly of the opinion he will never finish the books. He's 74 and not in good health. After the way the ending to the TV show was crapped on he knows he's never going to be able to make something people will be happy with so he'd rather go down in history as one of the greats leaving their masterpiece unwritten. That way people can browse his notes and drafts and try and piece it together and if it sucks it isn't his fault.

Should just get Sanderson to pick it up while GRRM is still kicking so he can have some input on the high points.

It's pretty crazy that people have been saying "He's xx years old, and in terrible health" for over a decade and he still hasn't finished the thing yet. 74 is pushing it, and I firmly believe it's never happening. He's going to ride out his legacy, and income, on royalties from the HBO gravy train. And why not? He can assist where he wants, isn't under scrutiny if it goes south and can keep going to insane amounts of events as a pseudo celebrity like he's been doing almost nonstop (not counting covid).

He probably has contingencies in place for this, spring, and other future titles to go to Sanderson to finish.

idk his position now but in the past he said if he dies he wants his notes destroyed and no one would be allowed to finish it

He started out as a tv writer, so he probably feels at home developing new shows. The books were probably a side project when he couldnt get anything off the ground.
