Not a game having an easy mode mind you but being offered one by the game because you suck so much.

That thing the new smash bros game does where if you lose a round it forcibly drops the difficulty on you.
There's offering you an easy mode and then there's haha gee guess you're just not as good as you thought, let's get those training wheels on right away.

The only thing I can think of that compares is how some old school games would let you pick easy mode and then halfway through the game bring up an ending screen that basically says if you want to actually play the rest of the game you have to pick a harder difficulty.

Panzer Dragoon was notorious for this. If you tried playing on any of the easier difficulties it would just flat out end your game early and tell you to come back on a harder difficulty.

It's probably to stop kids from screaming and throwing their controllers. You can decline if you haven't had enough.

X-men on the sega genesis did this too I think
