A user's girlfriend died. He mentioned it on GameFAQs(never do this). He was arguing with gunpla in a topic, and she basically brought up his girlfriend to use in an argument. There was no relevance. There was no reason. She did this just because she knew it would make him feel bad, and she was mad at him and having an argument.

She was immediately warned for this. People asked for an apology. 2 days later, she is off the warning and makes an apology topic. "Oh, I'm so sorry to my friend that I [some stupid irrelevant shit that has nothing to do with anything, obviously trolling]" and she was warned again.

I'd rather not bring up exactly what she said, because idk if the mods will mod it. Even error said it was pretty bad.

Edit: Cyric has referenced this multiple times in the topic, even he's saying it was bad by saying his was 'worse'.

Spoilers without warning has always been against the ToU. If you give a warning for one kind of spoiler but then give a different kind of spoiler behind the warning, you haven't actually given a warning for the spoilers.

You're not likely to change the mind of the person you're arguing against; but there is a good chance you may influence the mind of others reading the argument who are currently on the fence, and who may otherwise just see the other person's side without any counterarguments. This is the more important consideration IMO (in general, not just this specific subject).

Have they not read through the arguments dozens of times at this point? How much does it actually take to convince someone that you're worthy of basic human respect?

That's an important thing, too. If you're (I don't mean you in particular, but just any person) going to do try to help, you need to be able to offer more than words. People in precarious situations often can't do a lot to help themselves.

It's very possible that they haven't. One of my coworkers the other day asked me about my siblings, I mentioned that one was non-binary and he had no idea what it meant. He wasn't hateful in any way, including after I explained it (a bit of "I don't get it" but you could tell he genuinely just didn't quite understand), but yeah, just had never heard of it before.

A lot of this seems like "everyone should already know" material to those who it's personally relevant to, or who have a lot of interaction with those who it's personally relevant to, but not everyone has that personal connection to it, and people who don't, very well might not be familiar with it. Doubly so when it comes to the finer points (eg. participation in sex-segregated sports) rather than the basics (ie. "don't be an asshole to people just because they're trans").

You're absolutely right in a general sense, but more specifically, i'm talking about discussions here on CE. People here are informed and more or less have fully formed viewpoints on the subject.

When it is quantifiably false, a fact that she has been informed of multiple times, by multiple individuals, on many occasions, and yet she continues to quintuple down, yes. It can be. Knowingly and deliberately misleading/misrepresenting information is explicitly mentioned within the ToS. Her main was banned for a very notable trolling incident where, after very publicly and vocally condemning the game for months, she misled and blasted out end game spoilers in a shameless attempt to ruin the game for others. She knows this.

This is not unique to gunpla. Many, many, many users are routinely modded for doing the same thing. See: near every "I was modded just for having a harmless [party] opinion" post that strategically omits the inflammatory/insulting/racist/sexist/bigoted/outright genocidal context of said opinion's presentation.

As for the severity of the penalty, like many other things, it cones down to known information, and history. And, much as someusers here wish it, hopping on an alt and coming back in wearing the equivalent of a fake mustache does not magically grant a 100% clean slate.

The follow up backhanded apology insult topic was pretty much straight worse if I was grading them on some kind of offensive scale but people don't talk much about that one since I guess "she made an insincere apology" doesn't have the same punch to it as "she brought up another users dead loved one" after you eliminate all the context.

No, I just don't want to get modded. I've been modded for people implying I'm things, then me outright denying it, but the mods didn't care. So I just try to tread carefully.
