Also, you can easily chalk it up to Gero being smart enough to bio-engineer two teenagers into being leagues stronger than anything that's landed on the planet.

I mean they clearly were, given how easily they wiped out everyone at once aside from a chicken shit Krillin. That just so happens to include Trunks and Vegeta.

But they killed everyone. Even Vegeta who is the best and strongest.

Was it ever explained why trunks going back to warn and save goku meant the androids that arrived at the island were 19& 20 rather than 17&18 ? also as trunks had no idea who android 19&20 were what happened to them in his timeline ?

Also what you should be questioning is why the Future timeline seemed to have 17 and 18 be pure evil but they wake up in the present and are mostly just menaces.

Maybe they found out Goku was already dead and basically went rogue in his timeline?

There was never a 16 to reign them in in Trunks' timeline too.

Androids 1-7 and 9-12 are not seen and are implied to have been destroyed by their creator, Dr. Gero.

Android 8 is actually a character Goku makes friends with as a child.

Androids 13-15 appeared in the seventh Dragon Ball Z movie called Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13! All of the movies before Battle of Gods (2013) are generally not considered part of the main canon by most of the community.

Just call them 17 and 18. Even they stopped using their former names.

Technically, Kamiccolo was able to go one-on-one with 17.

However, the bigger issue isn't the Z Fighters, but instead the other planetary threats. The future timeline makes no sense because Dabura is stronger than 17 and 18 and Majin Buu is far stronger than Dabura. In the absence of the Z Fighters, the androids would STILL have been crushed.

babidi needed the energy of fighters to revive majin buu right? given that most of humanity has been wiped out by the androids there prolly isnt even enough to revive him, babidi would prolly go somewhere else and bother them lol

I believe in DB Super Future Trunks killed them before they had the chance to revive Buu, unsure about why the time delay though (other than that they probably hadn't written Buu yet during the Android saga of course).
