Hmm, thinking about it more it might make the account bait for hackers. Because if it was a honest campagin they would publish the winner wouldn't they?

A core part of the model is making the individual purchases small so players keep spending without realizing how quickly it adds up. Drawing attention to the fact that people spend 5 grand and still don't have everything probably isn't a message they want to broadcast.

That would be hilarious if the game didn't have a pity counter.
