I once did the math and added together all the /played time for all my retail characters, and the total was over two straight years of playtime.

True. I believe EQ has it beat by 5 years but wow was a lot people's first experience with MMOs

Yes. Everquest came out in 1999

WoW was 2004

Before 2004, Everquest was the biggest mmo in the world. But mmo players were still a minority. After WoW came out, it shattered player number records. Everquest is probably the first mmo many people ever heard of. But most people probably didn't play it and then played WoW

By 2004, a lot more people had internet then in 1999

Played an unhealthy amount from 2005-2010.

Summer after 7th grade through summer after graduation.
