So they want a world where everyone is walking around armed, but also feeling threatened by everyone else who is armed. As I saw another poster say, no one really has second amendment rights if literally exercising them makes it justified to shoot you.

Yes, everyone has the right to protect themselves. But there needs to be tons of strict laws and hoops people ought to jump through before people can own a gun.

Thought this would be more about how they dont allow guns at conventions or at other public events in which they participate.

the correct way to say it is, "you can wield a gun to protect yourself from tyranny, but you don't need a gun if tyranny doesn't apply to you"

Never been there, but yes the vast majority of my posts are political

it's also worth noting that guns are not actually useful for self-defense. people are much more likely to injure themselves with their own gun than they are to protect themselves in any sort of self-defense scenario

Your second sentence being true does not make your first sentence true.

Republicans take it for granted that no social issues that lead to violence can actually be solved, so they want you to arm up instead. They want a society where no improvement is possible because everyone is armed and hypersuspicious of everyone else.

It's the same mentality that billionaires have toward climate change. They take for granted that we're not going to do what's necessary to solve the problem (while actively stopping attempts to do so), instead they plan for a future where we haven't solved it and they leave to terraform Mars.

This, it's not hypocrisy once you understand their world view. They want rights for themselves and no one else. They want the power of the state to be wielded for them against people they hate.

yes. guns are highly dangerous tools and they need to be treated as such. american gun nuts are... well, completely nuts -- in many ways, but certainly when it comes to actual gun safety and training
