Apparently many people say most people are gift wrapped the jobs they have through connections

I dont seem to believe it when you can go to McDonalds and get hired the same day at some locations

it depends
'any job' easy
this includes 0 hour contracts at below poverty line
'job that lets you rent with people and not starve'
harder but possible
'job that lets you rent on your own'
talking a career job with 2-3 years of experience
'job that let syou support a family'
'hahahaha'

I can only speak for my (very large) area but from my experience...

  • Retail/food service and many warehouse employers aren't offering full-time positions because then they have to offer benefits
  • The most basic, entry-level office jobs require a bachelor's degree and/or several years' worth of experience in the same job
  • Trades are becoming difficult to get into as apprenticeship programs and other associated things have massive waiting lists
  • Virtually no WFH/remote job listings whatsoever

I had to throw boxes for a year following grad school. Then I got my foot in the door as a contractor at a place I wanted to work for long term. After 4 years, they hired me on as an employee. Things are good now, but it sure as shit didnt look like it was going to be, for awhile there.

Depends on the career so it's hard to say. If you're applying for a specialized and competitive job in application it's hard.

But if that someone is just a NEET trying to sprout that garbage then their just a lazy bum.

There are tons of variables.

First, want to differentiate between finding "a job" and a "good job". In most markets, finding "a job" isn't that hard. But it likely pays jack shit and will not even put a roof over your head, let alone food on the table.

I think you need like $60k now to be a what I would consider a "good job", with opportunity of growth to at least $80k. Some markets you might need to double that, but that's a bare minimum middle of the country salary.

For me, it is not difficult to find a good job. I have an education, an established career, great connections where I have hired, mentored, been friends with, worked directly with, been references of, etc. of people who are now at high positions in a number of companies. I have an enviable Linkedin with actual connections that can get me jobs and I have helped like a dozen people get good jobs with my connections.

Fact is 50% of American's as of 4th quarter 2022 were paid under $1,085/week. Only about 40% of americans make over $60k/year, and only 25% make more than $75k.

So, for most people, yeah. Probably pretty hard to find a good job.

thsi is the end all be all

you can right now call up your temp agency make up some bullshit and get hired somewhere in a warehouse

now do you WANT to do that is a whole another thing. Jobs worth a shit are probably gonna have some competition but if you play the numbers game and put your best foot forward eventually youll win.

You also need to be realistic and have some prerequisites, stretch your experience OR be a damn good liar. Or all three

mileage may vary, some jobs will check the fuck out of your record so use common sense discern where you can and cannot BS

https://www.bls.gov/news.release/wkyeng.t05.htm

Department of labor with various percentiles from Q4 2022.

Each number is the upper limit of what it describes. So first decile is 10th percentile, first quartile is 25th percentile, second quartile (median) is 50th percentile, third quartile is 75th percentile, ninth decile is 90th percentile.

i found an additional site i can't find now, it had every percentile but was from early 2022 I think.

Not always the case that working hard on your education gets you far

I knew people who were really well educated who ended up working in airport with me for minimum wage.

Hell I knew dudes with degrees who delivered for freakin Amazon.

Hiring is far from a science. The biggest problem with interviewing is someone can be amazing at interviewing and that has absolutely jack shit with being good at their job. A lot of interviewing is being a good speaking, able to engage with the interviewers, making them feel comfortable. If you have a good resume it helps, but virtually every hiring decision there is still a large amount of uncertainty when the decision is made.

And even if luck is only 5-10% of the equation, over the course of a career, especially in highly competitive fields, it can leave behind hardworking geniuses easily.

Remember, Tom Brady went in the 6th round, and if not for injury of Bledsoe his rookie year and the opportunity to step up, he could have easily been out of the league without throwing a ball in game.

It seems impossible for me to find the kind of job that I want. Im a very simple person, Ive never defined myself by my career, which may sound like a good thing, but its got its issues. I have no goal.

Scratch that, my goal would be a work from home job that doesnt involve dealing with customers and doesnt require tons of education and pays well enough. Seems hopeless tbh.

It was extremely true for me.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Computer Information Systems. 3.85 GPA. I moved to the nearest "big" city not long after graduation and started applying.

I couldn't get responses (much less interviews) from anywhere for a long time. I couldn't get an interview at a branch of the lab where a friend worked even with a referral from him. I applied to jobs I was more than qualified for at my (at the time) fiancee's company with her referral. I tried everything I could think of from completely reworking my resume a dozen times, making a new email address, taking keywords, networking, etc. Nothing, and I mean nothing, worked. I even desperately applied for retail and fast food with similar results.

Can you imagine what that does to a guy's mental health? Imagine if you were opening up to someone you thought was a close friend, genuinely crying your eyes out because it feels like nothing is going to ever get better, and they laugh at you and tell you to sell your body instead.

I believe people when they say it's hard. I lived it. I almost didn't live through it. It makes me furious when people make light of this kind of thing.

Things are okay now though. I work in insurance. I make enough to pay the rent for a decent apartment, buy the occasional video game, and take care of my cat. That's all I ever really wanted after feeling like nothing was going to get better. Of course, I've tried looking for other jobs and have been running into a lot of the same difficulties. I've had a few interviews, but no offers. It gets me down a lot but I try not to think about it too much.

Well I went through at least 12 Interviews before getting an absolute bottom of the barrel job (janitor and cleaning bathrooms) part-time for minimum wage

Only reason I was able to upgrade was cause I knew a guy in a better job
