Dude literally is invincible and turns up at the nick of time to save the day.

If they went the One Punch Man route of how boring it must be fair enough but he literally it just boring as fuck.

What do people like about him and are there any of his stories where he isnt invincible?

Most of them.

You know that saying "power corrupts"

Superman is a story about "what if it didn't corrupt this one dude?" That's what's interesting about him.

there are some good depictions of the character, IMO.

Superman: American Alien (miniseries)
Superman vs the Elite (animated movie)
Superman and Lois (CW TV series)

they all deal with his humanity, responsibility, and/or what it means to be "Superman".

He's a good, well developed character (most of the time).

He is "the boyscout" through and through, but he's almost always put in situations you can't just punch your way out of, and the ones you can the opponent generally has a way to overpower him. It's especially fun when he stops being the boyscout for one reason or another.

What a played out criticism

It's the most surface level criticism they can give. Anyone saying this is basically saying "I'm barely familiar with the character" as a great deal of Superman villains are on his level or even outclass him.

Exactly. It's not his powerset, but his firm belief in trying to do what's right that makes him interesting.

The stories about Superman are never really about him being the strongest, cuz you already know he is. Rather, they are about him doing the right thing, the burden of carrying that immense power to do good and stay true to his principles in a world that is full of nuances. That's why his main villain (Lex Luthor) is just a mere intelligent, resourceful, resilient human but also capable of extreme narcissism, cowardice and selfishness. Both Superman and Lex are image of the best and worst humanity is capable of. If you read Superman as if it were Dragon Ball, you are reading it wrong.

This is my gripe with a lot of media that centers on the Justice League. A lot of times the solution to a conflict is literally just waiting for Superman to show up so he can solve the problem for everybody. It's what happened in both of the Injustice games.

Thats exactly what I am saying. I am barely familiar with his character. So outside of doomsday who was probably the villain that bought me to Superman in the first place what else is worth reading?

I'm not a Superman "fan" myself despite reading comics and being very familiar with him. I'd say in order to truly "get" him as people are describing in this topic read these

For The Man Who Has Everything
Red Son
All Star Superman
Whatever Happened To Truth, Justice And The American Way

All of these are also adapted to animated episodes and movies if you'd prefer that.
In the same order as above

Justice League Unlimited Season 1 Episode 2
Red Son
All Star Superman
Superman Vs The Elite

it's about having absolute power/immortality to 'force' the right thing

It depends on the writer. His best stories aren't about him punching Darkseid. It's when stuff like this happens

I feel like that scene gets read backwards. I always assumed the reversing of Earth's rotation was just to illustrate that time was reversing. The scene also has tons of other segments of reverse footage. >_>

We could tell you everything great about him until the sun goes down but ultimately his character just doesn't appeal to everyone. And that's okay.

Just read his current storys and decide for yourself. He has two mainline books being action comics, and superman.

The former nowadays stars Clark Kent. And the latter his son, Jon. Comic book storys are generally about 3-5 issues long, mostly stand alone and you can read the synopsis to jump in whenever.

For YouTube channels there are many but ones like 'comics explained' is one I recommend for newer readers. He oftentimes explains lore and backstory in issues new readers likely won't know.

Superman: For Tomorrow is a good story that addresses the question "Why doesn't Superman get rid of Violent Dictator X from country Y?"

TC. How much about Superman do you really know? Do you read Superman comics, watch animated/live actions adaptations of him too? Because as you describe him, "boring", he's not. Superman has a lot a depth to him. Read All-Star Superman for example.
