Lets say a scenario happens where

-A Father and his Child are walking or sitting down

-Some Random man rushes by and grabs the child or tries to take the kid hostage

-The Father gets infuriated, manages to successfully grab the Random Man and beats his Face in until the man is dead

In a scenario like this, would the Father face Prison time in most states in the USA?

I've seen this happena few times and the dad gets away with it.

Even cases where the dad took revenge at a later date and got a slap on the wrist

It depends on multiple factors, that you cannot say "Yes", or "No". Including how you present on the day, and how your history is (Criminally, and otherwise).

If it happened like that it would depend on the state I think. But youre allowed to defend your children from harm.

Yes and no. A father shot and killed a karate instructor who kidnapped and molested his son while in an airport and being held in police custody but never went to prison.

the law isnt about the law.

say trump did it: 0 punishment. Say a black man in Florida did it: life sentence.

Don't care what the law says. You touch my kids, you better start praying to whoever you believe in that it'll be quick because I'll go to prison for defending my kids without thinking twice.

Prison, no. The worst that'll happen is parole.
But IDK about California... They got some dumb laws that protect criminals.

By the letter of the law, that scenario would definitely be beyond self-defense, but there are a number of circumstances that could keep someone from being charged, or get them otherwise acquitted or a lower sentence.

If there was a scenario where some dude was trying to physically kidnap a kid, I don't think there's a DA alive that would charge the father for killing the would-be-kidnapper, barring a situation it was done execution-style after the threat had been eliminated or if done in a ridiculously over the top fashion that injured other people or worse. Getting enraged and beating a kidnapper to death in the defense of your kid would probably not lead to any criminal charges.

Edit: caveat, there are plenty of places where a black dad killing a white kidnapper would probably be charged. And vice versa might lead to public pressure to charge a white dad killing a black kidnapper, but I'd venture a guess that there'd be much more opposition to that inherently.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

Yeah, I've heard about similar cases like this before. Seems to end up with the judge saying "You broke the law. Sorry, but I have to sentence you. However, if you pinky swear to never do it again, I'll let you serve out the sentence on probation".

So you'll leave your child fatherless? Yikes.
