Long story short, I threw my hat in for a DP gig on a paid independent short film production. Went out for coffee with the director and producer but even after praising my reel they denied me because they're looking for a "BIPOC" crew lol I guess the whole "marketing gimmick" for the short film (it's being funded by multiple outside entities) is that it's a fully BIPOC crew. I told them that I am Mexican American (I am) and they were basically tripping over themselves to save face. They offered me another project in Sept but I don't think I want to work for these people ever again lol kept it open tho cuz I've worked for them previously and I've had a decent time on set in the lighting dept.

The kicker here is that both the director and the producer for the film are ethnically white af. I have no problem with the whole BIPOC thing (seeing as I am BIPOC I'm pretty sure, but now I'm doubting it lol) but coming from these two guys using it as a marketing gimmick it seems advantageous and gross. I'm not really sour about it and I'm not gonna do anything dumb like call them out or anything that could blacklist me.

On a brighter side I got a permanent gig with an independent TV series as a camera op making $500 a day. Two weeks on two weeks off, and I'll still keep my day job so I'll be making pretty decent money to hopefully start my own production company. Woo
