Yep. When I started in IT, they wouldn't hire me at an entry level Help Desk position because I had no experience. Had to start at AT&T support call center first to get me going. I recommend starting at Best Buy, though.

Well helping friends and family with computer issues kinda count as experience? I honestly wonder how hard people stretch the truth on resumes.

It's always amusing seeing people bewildered by this. I'm not sure "entry level" means what some people here think it means.

Yeah yeah we get it technically it's entry level "for the company, but it still doesn't change the fact that it's unnecessary gatekeeping

Because it was never "unnecessary gatekeeping" to begin with. Absolutely childish response.

It's better than requiring ten years experience in platforms that have only existed for two.

Depends on perspective. For potential applicants, it is unnecessary gatekeeping. For HR, it does something believed to be useful.

Asking for a minimum of 1-2 years of experience is more than fair tbh. You don't want someone completely clueless, especially if its a career.

It's a ruse to try and get people with some experience to work for less than what they're worth. Apply anyway.

That's what on the job training is for. Entry level jobs usually aren't rocket science either.

Like I said, it depends if its for a career level job or just some side job. Years of experience also contributes to things like knowledge on job expectations and work ethics as well. It's not always fool proof, but as my 8 years experience of being a Senior Manager at a CPA firm shows that almost anytime we hired someone with more work experience, they always perform up or beyond expectation vs. someone with little to no relevant work experience in the particular field because we run into issues like them not learning/picking things up quick enough or have terrible work ethics like coming to work late constantly.

Work ethic and performance are unnecessary, its 2023, make a Tik Tok
